Storage ideas

I am setting up a playroom in the basement.  I don't like toy boxes unless they are for things like stuffed animals or large toys that have single pieces. I was thinking of something like this.  I figure it's better for sorting things that have lots of pieces.  I was thinking I could split it in half, DS on oneside and DD on the other.  What do you think?

    A former friend of mine had one whole wall of those organizers in her playroom. It started with the pyramid one and her kids would not stop climbing the sides of the thing. So she bought a whole bunch more of all different shapes and sizes, put them together like a puzzle, and bolted them all together. It looked awesome! Our friends in Germany got two of the really tall ones and bolted them together front to back and slid it in a narrow space where she wanted lots of storage but it was too narrow to put anything side by side. So instead, it was two bins deep, you could only see one set of bins, but could side one bin out...and then the other bin was behind it. There are so many cool things you can do with them!

    If I was to pick out of the two you posted, I would do the second one. If I did the pyramid one, I would constantly telling kids not to climb on it.

    Although, if you don't mind your kids climbing on it, I would remove the top two blue bins...because they wouldn't open, and attach a slide to the top. Then they could climb up the sides and go down the slide!

    Lo has what is actually a large doll house but some of the rooms are the same size as the closet maid cloth bins and the other rooms I'm using as shelves. We have a double ottoman that I have one side with soft top and the other a tray as seating and a surface and under our wall mount TV I have what's actually an Ikea coffee table with cubbies I have wicker baskets and their games and puzzles. Under the coffee table I have a hinge top wicker box that all of the trains and tracks go in. I keep mini book bags of random items and coloring stuff on the top shelf in the bedroom closets which is great to just grab for the car. In E's closet I have a 9 cube system with bins and baskets. My other thing is like items have to be together so if you rub out of room you have to get rid of old stuff if you want something new which cuts down on the amount of storage needed.
