Baby Names

What are some cool Biblical names?

I seem to like some Biblical names.

Some I know are: Jacob, Joseph, Abraham, Levi, Naphtali, Gad, Issachar, Zebulun, Reuben, Simeon, and Asher for boys and Rachel and Leah for girls.

What are some other ones you could see on a person now? Girls AND Boys please!

Not like some of those crazier names like Zebulun and Issachar..

  • My faves are Caleb, Micah, and Gabriel for boys. Moses is nice, too!
  • Hm. Now that I think of it, 'Caleb' may not be biblical... I think I was thinking of Cain!
  • My main stream favorites that I don't think were listed:  Benjamin, Samuel, Nathaniel, David, Peter, Philip.

Girls that weren't listed:  Anna, Dorcas (also known as Tabitha), Priscilla, Eve.  I think that's it that I would recommend.

  • Also, FWIW, always double check who the person was in the Bible if you're going that route.  Delilah is very popular now, but she's not a person you should name your kid after.  (Got Samson killed.)  Likewise, most people avoid Jezebel.

Caleb, not a name I like aesthetically, but a great namesake:  one of only two Israelite scouts who kept the faith and made it into the promised land after the exile/40 years of wandering. (Along with Joshua.)

Everyone on my list, I think, is safe!  (Sure, Miriam got some white leprosy for a bit but was generally an amazing, strong woman.  Sister of Aaron & Moses.)

Other strong women in the Bible:  Deborah, Ruth, Naomi.

  • I knew an Issachar in college. Sometimes even the "crazier" names are really cool names once they're on a real person! If there's one you love, I wouldn't let that stop you.
