Chicken pox Vaccine

Have we decussed the chicken pox vaccine yet? (if so, sorry! Not on my A game)

Just wondering if any of your LO's have had it yet or booked for their appointment.

Do you agree with this vaccine or not?

Do we have a choice for this vaccine?

Reason I ask, the health unit just called and said Alice has her appointment booked for December 12th.. Just wanted some imput :)

Re: Chicken pox Vaccine

  • I do all vaccines. The benefits outweigh the risks to me. And I would hate for my kids to expose someone who hasn't or can't get the vaccine.

I'm sure some others will have more details. Just give everybody some time to come out of their turkey comas.

  • We do all vaccines that are recommended by the AAP.  We got that vaccine at her 12m appt.

  • We also do all vaccines, and both of my girls had the chicken pox vaccine at 12 months. I agree with ldcoffel, the benefits outweigh the risks, and herd immunity only works if enough people are vaxed, so I vax my kids for their benefit and the benefit of those who can't be.

  • We also strongly believe in getting all recommended vaccines and got this at the 12 month appointment.

  • B gets all vaccines per the doctor's recommended schedule. She got the chicken pox vaccine at her 12 months appointment. She also got the MMR at her 12 months appointment. I was relieved when less than a month later an infant at her daycare was diagnosed with measles.

  • Thanks for your input gals :)

I remember having chicken pox as a kid, and it wasn't made into a huge deal like it is nowadays.

I don't think it is so much that they are making a big deal of it as it is that you can now prevent your kids from getting it.  And while most kids get fairly mild versions, there are most serious cases that can cause major health issues.

Both kids got it at their 12 month appointment here.

wow that's scary! there was an outbreak a county over from me not too long ago, in an area with a lot of people who don't vaccinate. O get's his at his 15 month check up. He got the chicken pox one at 12 months

  • J got it at 12 mths. I had a friend who had to be hospitalized when she got the pox. I'd rather prevent something like that. Yes, I know it's anecdotal, but we vaccinate according to the ped's schedule regardless.
