My husband got a call from his urologist today and they told him they had the results back and that the count was low (32mil/ml) but didn't mention anything else. They want him to take Fertility For Men supplements for 3 months (which are not cheap). I asked for a copy of the results and the motile sperm is at a 7 (range 50-100) and sperm viability is at 47 (range 50-100). They didn't mention anything about those numbers being a problem, but with 7% motility-that seems like a problem to me. I don't know a lot about these things, but was wondering if anyone else had results like this?
TIA

Re: SA result confusion-7% motility?
My DH's motility went from 1.8% to 28% after I put him on vitamins, including CoQ10. It's worth a shot. I hunted around and made my own sort of cocktail of pills for him. His count went up too.
Unfortunately, nothing helped his morph.
I don't think 32 mil/mL is too bad- it's supposed to be over 20 mil. Are you sure that wasn't the total count, if they said it was low?
The motility is low if it's 7. It should be over 50% motile usually. I am guessing the 3rd thing is morphology. It really depends what scale you use for morph. If it's "strict" criteria, 47% morph is great. For the other scales I've seen (WHO criteria), between 30-50% normal is what they say.
I would be most concerned about the motility. I would make an appt with a urologist to see if there's possible a varicocele, etc. Good luck.

My DH also had very low motility on his SA (3%)...I'm surprised the urologist didn't say anything about the 7% motility since that is quite low. We just had an appointment with the urologist who said he thinks it is the variceole and has suggested the surgery.
Let me know if you have any questions, although I'm pretty new to this myself. I am so sorry you have to deal with this!

My DH's results were 20% motility with everything else within normal limits. He has been taking a whole bunch of vitamins and is being retested next week. From what I've learned, motility is the most important parameter for fertilization.
My dr. said to have a couple SA tests before making a diagnosis.
