Has anyone had an IUD inserted who has NOT had a vaginal birth ? I had a scheduled C-section (breech baby) and never dilated at all. I'm wondering how painful getting an IUD would be in my case, since I've always heard it's not painful if you've had a kid but technically my vagina hasn't had a kid!
Bonus question - did you have to schedule your IUD ahead of time or did you just ask for one at your 6 week checkup and they could just put it in?
Re: XP: IUD Pain
While I have had a vaginal birth, when I got my IUD inserted, the OB mentioned that my cervix was unusually tight during insertion (which is why they suggest doing it during your period when it's more likely to be softer/more open). This was just after my c-section that I had it put in.
I found it somewhat painful, almost a pinching sensation as they had to basically force it through. Doctor even had to use a second tool (don't know what it was exactly) to make it fit. It hurt enough I did wince and make a few sounds during the insertion and it was awkward walking afterward, but it eased up eventually.
You will need to ask your doctor ahead of time about the IUD. Some doctors will do it at the 6 week, but they'll need to know ahead of time to have it on hand (and to get the insurance information sorted out).
I've never had a vaginal birth - only dilated to 5cm - and I have an IUD. It was painless. No big deal, IMO.
I had a 2 week checkup after my c/s and informed my doctor then that I wanted the Mirena. He placed it at my 6 week checkup.
There are lots of women who get an IUD who have never even been pregnant and everyone I know said it didn't hurt.
I had a c/s.
zero pain. I got at my 6 week check.
FTM - I dilated to around 4 cm before needing a c section, it may have been 5cm? No idea - my BP dropped and I got run in for an emergency c section, so the details are fuzzy.
In any case, I had some minor pinching since I was closed up tight for the IUD insertion. It was basically just uncomfortable, about the same as having the membranes stripped or a colposcopy for me. They used a tool to dilate me a tiny bit to get the IUD up there, and the tool scraped my cervix a bit causing some bleeding.
It wasn't a terrible or painful experience by any means. Easier to handle for me than the stress of possibly forgetting to take the BCP again and having a second baby when we can't handle it haha
