Pregnant after a Loss

Depressed or just tired??

Has anyone else wondered the same thing?

I have a lot of trouble getting (and staying) out of bed in the morning.  I begrudgingly take showers in the morning but makeup and hair are OUT of the question.  I have been feeling really bummed about the weight I've gained (pre-pg) and the baby bloat is not helping me feel any more confident.  I even cancelled pictures that DH and I were going to have taken this weekend because I couldn't find any new pants that fit.... which now that I'm typing it, sounds pretty humorous.

Don't get me wrong... I'm thrilled to be having symptoms... I just feel overall so incredibly BLAH and that mixed with PgAL brain is making this quite taxing.  I wonder if depression is a symptom of pregnancy.  :-/

Re: Depressed or just tired??

  • I don't think I wore makeup weeks 6-12. Like ever. I certainly didn't wash my hair every day and instead just took a quick shower because I felt like I "had" to. Styling it was out of the question. I put myself on "bed rest" which just meant I didn't feel like getting up unless it was to eat or puke, or both.

I hope that it's normal in early pregnancy not to feel glamorous because I certainly didn't. I am however feeling MUCH better these last 2 or so weeks. I am back to my old self with a little slow down in the afternoon. I'm happy again and getting more energy by the day. I'm still not scrubbing the tub or cooking every night like I used to but things are getting back to normal.

I say mention it to your OB so she's aware of your lethargy but if you want to take a nap, nap it up. I slept A LOT weeks 6-10. Like sometimes 16 hours a day. My RE said it was completely normal to feel "depressed" because of how tired I was. He said he's seen truly depressed people and I didn't strike him as more than just a really tired pregnant lady. Even when I told him I was sleeping 16 hours a day he didn't seem surprised or worried.

Tell your OB for sure, but I think you're probably just experiencing progesterone.

    Feel better!

  • Yeah, I really have been meaning to start walking.. it's so good for your mood!  I think the stress of working, going to school, and dealing with the emotional aspects of being pgal is just catching up to me.. and a small bit of anxiety over gaining too much weight during the next 9ish months, perhaps.  You'd think that would get my booty out of bed and walking, but seems like it has the opposite effect on me!!! :)

Thanks for the support.  I hope you had a great Thanksgiving!

  • Rachel, that makes me feel SO much better.  I have my first OB appt this Tuesday and I will definitely bring it up.  I have been consistently taking 2 hour naps at some point in the day and I still go to bed by 10pm!!  I told MH, "I thought I was supposed to be glowing!!! >:( "

So far the only pleasant symptom has been (tmi) increased, ahem, sensitivity.  A lot of good that does though, when you feel like poo the rest of the day.  ;)
