They're 3 days now and more or less nursing constantly. I'm delighted at their stamina and interest, but my nipples are sore and I don't know if this is normal. It never stops! Advice?
Very normal, and part of their way of making sure you will have enough milk for em in the weeks and months to come, so important even! But it's also very tiring. Lanolin helps, and having someone hold them when they aren't eating so you can napHang in there, it will get better!!!
When I was BFing DS I had horrible nipple blisters. My LC prescribed APNO. (It stands for advanced something nipple ointment but everyone just calls it APNO.) We had to fill the prescription at an apothecary. It is a miracle cream. Within 24 hours my nipples were healed. It's also safe for the babies to nurse with it. Hope they give you a break soon!
Unexplained Infertility
After two Clomid cycles, three injectable IUI cycles, two IVFs, two miscarriages, and one lap surgery, IVF #2 has brought us our little boy!
TTC #2 After months of being postponed or cancelled, FET #1.3 (Natural FET) brought us twin girls!
Yes it's normal, yes it hurts at first...a couple weeks? Yes you are feeding CONSTANTLY...but most importantly YES it gets better.
I like pps suggestions, but will also add in...make sure you drink SO much water and make sure you eat too! I second the lanolin, wear a supportive bra and you can use cool or warm packs for a bit if they help. I have some Medea ones that are specific to BF...they got a lot of use in the beginning!
Hang in there...it's hard, but good work!
This! And yes it gets way better. Much easier than I would imagine eping to be. It is funny because I remember getting so used to 45 min nursing sessions when the boys started nursing less I almost missed it. I would just be settling in to read/bump/watch a show and they were done. I can't say I wanted to go back to 45 min sessions but I did kind of miss them.
