Rec'ds for play kitchen: Where to start? What options are important?

So I'm in the market to pick out a play kitchen.  I have heard great things about the KidKraft ones; all wood, nice and simple, less bells and whistles.  But, what do kids really go for?  Do they need the light up burners?  Do they want the turnable buttons?  Do we get what's asthetically friendly within our home, or do we get the bright primary colors?

Can you rec'd any play kitchen that you have, your friends have, or have heard great things about?

Right now, I'm leaning towards the KidKraft model in espresso.  Opinions are greatly appreciated!

Yay for Christmas shopping!

  • We have a hand me down plastic barbie doll kitchen and she actually does play with it. She does not use any of the features though plays music, has burners that make noise. She just stands at it and eats the spoons and plates and opens and closes the doors the only recommendation I have is to make sure you get a solid stable one, otherwise you will have to secure it to the wall to keep it from falling over on them at least for now.

  • I didn't think about having to secure one to the wall.  Maybe that is why so many people love the KidKraft ones, stating how stable and solid (wood) they are.

Hmm...After posting this, I started looking at plastic ones that have the noise making burners, and whatnot.  I am so confused on what to pick.  I do know that I want it to be a neutral color, as in boy and girl neutral.  But, other than that, I'm still at square one.

  • We were eying the FP Grow-With-Me kitchen for the same reasons as PP.  Ended up with a Step2 Share something kitchen as a gift.  It's great!  LO can reach the things she'd be interested in (oven, fridge, baskets) and loves that the burners bubble and sizzle.  She did the best little happy dance when she heard that the first time!  I think it will be good for the long run.  I wanted the Dora kitchen, but then I was worried that she won't like Dora or pink down the road.
