XP-STMs--Pack and Play Question

Do I need the one with the newborn napper and changer--if you got that one, did you use it? I'm just wondering if the basic one would be good because it's so much cheaper. The one I registered for is no longer available so I have to change it anyway. Thanks in advance!

Re: XP-STMs--Pack and Play Question

  • I definitely used mine (and will this time) for the baby to sleep in my room the first month or so. If you have a bassinet or cradle, then probably not.
A friend of mine used hers downstairs for changing the baby because her changing table was upstairs.

Personally I used my PNP way more when the baby was an infant (with napper) than I did for him to play in when he was older.

  • Ours has the bassinet and baby changer feature, not the napper.  We used the bassinet while he was in our room, roughly 4 months.  We used the baby changer for a lot longer.  Plan to do the same with this one.
  • Mine just has the changer on it. It was handy and we used the changer part FOREVER...like way past when we probably should have stopped. I don't think the newborn napper is necessary, but the changer is super useful.

  • The napper has always seemed kinda sketchy to me. I found it unnecessary and went with a basic PnP with full size bassinet. No napper, no changer. I always changed DS on the bed or rug anyway.

  • Not a STM but I'm getting a basic PnP, you pay a lot extra for a couple gadgets that only last a few months. I think our basic PnP will work just perfectly.
  • We have this one at home and this one with the napper at the condo in FL. We used the changer and bassinet part a lot. We kept it in the living room for a long time. DS didn't care for the napper in the one we have at the condo, however,  I have friends who love thiers that has a napper.
  • Not a STM, but we got the basic ones with just the bassinet.  We have two, one in our room (upstairs), one in the living room (downstairs).  We used the bassinet for changing diapers and her to sleep in until about 6m.  She was getting too active at that point, so we dropped the bottom down.  It was very easy and convenient to just use the bassinet.  I was nervous about the safety of the newborn napper & the changers seemed flimsy, plus you're not supposed to let them sleep in the bassinet with the changer attached, so it seemed like a waste of money.

  • Thanks everyone!! Especially for the safety report....I didn't event think about it, but I removed the Rock and Play from my registry on recommendation from a nurse who taught our baby class. She said the same thing about not letting them sleep (while we're sleeping) in anything too cushy or soft. It stands to reason that this would be a bad idea for the same reason. Off to BRU I go! Thanks again for all the helpful responses!

  • We didnt get the pack n play with the napper or changing table.  I changed DD either on the floor, bed, couch or her room.  And as far as naps went Im pretty sure she would pass out on the floor, couch or we would lay her down in her bassinet or crib.

  • Ours has a bassinet and we've used it to have the baby sleep in our room for the first couple of months. We plan to do so again.

We really didn't use the changer, but I don't think we could get the bassinet w/out the changer. We used it for a week when we took our PNP on vacation, but usually we just change the baby on the floor if out of town.

  • We didn't use our PNP at all, well, until DS was at the age where he could sit up and I'd put him in it in the bathroom while I showered.  We had a bassinet that had a changing table on it, plus the changing table itself, and between the two of those and the bed/couch, we never used the PNP.

  • we had a PNP with both the napper and changer, and used them alot.  But if you are uncomfortable wtih them, then just get the basic one...
  • I had one with the bassinet feature and the changer, and never used the changer, but did use the bassinet feature.

I just saw one today for the first time that has a cosleeper attachment, which I wish was available when I had DS.  I wanted to use my pnp as a bassinet, but it still required me to get up out of bed to look down at him and having had a c-section it wasn't easy.  The cosleeper option looks great.
