Baby Carrier Question for Dad's

As a dad, what functionality do you wish your baby carrier had?  What other things do you wish it did or had?

Re: Baby Carrier Question for Dad's

  • Easier conversion from newborn to baby to toddler.

  • I am confused by this question.  Are we talking about a car seat or an actual carrier??

  • Well, I'm still a few months off from even thinking about this stuff, but a tv with a hook up to the NFL Network would be nice...and a cooler bottom with some beers. Oh, and a hibachi for grilling some brats while I watch the game and have a beer.

    Just a thought....

I see a business opportunity for you here.

  • Our carrier is tough to put on, it has four connectors, two fasteners an two other gadgets used to loosen or tighten the entire contraption. I wish it was more backpack like, slip it on and slide the kid in.....

  • Hi ladyjenna, I'm interested in soft structured carriers.  Thanks for commenting!
  • Hi David - what kind of carrier do you have?  Thanks for the feedback.

  • We currently have a base system for newborn, infant.  We have a front carrier for when our LO was young and my parents got us the backpack carrier for him since he is 17 months and is already 34 pounds.

I am hoping that he can walk longer distances on his own by the time our next one comes along in 9 months.

Thanks for clarifying for me.....I am suffering from sick baby sleep deprevation right now, so things tend to go over my head from time to time.

I don't use a carrier personally.  Our boy is growing so fast already (13 pounds at 2 months, almost double what he was at birth) that it is much easier for me to just carry him around in my hands and let him crawl all over my torso.  Good workout too!

My wife has a moby, and she is not really a big fan of it.  I guess it depends on how laid back the baby is.  Our boy is very laid back, and we can just prop him in his pack and play, turn on some music and his mobile, and he is very chill and will smile or fall out.

When we are out and about we have a click and go stroller that his car seat snaps into.  He normally just sleeps the whole time in that.

  • We never used a carrier.  We would just put him in his travel system or carry him until he was big enough to sit up on his own.  Heard too much about some of them causing hip problems and the like that we just chose to avoid them altogether.

There are plenty that do not cause hip dysplasia, if that is your only concern.  Look over on the attachment parenting board for the criteria.  But a carrier is not for everyone, so it's a personal choice.
