Today was E's 2 month check up...which meant shots. I have never seen my child turn that red/purple before or heard him scream like he did. I managed not to cry (although the tears were certainly there). But they stayed.
So we talked to the Pedi (First time meeting her, btw) about his inability to poop on his own. She told us to try giving him 2 oz. of Gerber's Pear juice a day, and then back off if he gets diarrhea. She also confirmed that he has a really small umbilical hernia, but nothing to be worried about. He weighs 12 pounds and everything else looks great.
We stopped and picked up some pear juice on the way home. By the time we got home it was time for little man to eat. So, DH gave him the 2 oz. of pear juice first, which he ate just fine. When DH went to give him his formula, E projectile vomited all over the place, which actually came up chunky and a funky color. Which then started a new screaming fit and nearly brought me to tears again.
We got him cleaned up and he calmed down and has been fine ever since, but today was traumatic for me.
Re: Well...That was traumatic
Our ped had us do 2 ounces in one sitting of prune juice or apple juice for DS.. But was also told we could split it up over the day if we wanted to.. But giving him it at once might have a better chance of getting him to go.. dS had awful poo issues.. His belly would blow up like a balloon and he would cryyy in pain.. The thing was, when he did poop it was soft, so he wasn't constipated.. Just not going enough.. This was one of the reasons we ended up putting him n Nutramigen.. Now he goes almost every dy..
I'm so sorry it was such a traumatic day.. I hope tomorrow is better for you!!
2 oz is what she said, and said if it gave him diarrhea to cut back.
DH gave him an oz. sometime after I went to bed so he had a little bit of solid and a bit of diarrhea, so we'll cut it down to 1/2 oz.
Right now we're up with a 100.7 fever which has hopefully gone down since I gave him some tylenol.
(((Hugs))) Shots are rough.. DS had a fever for nearly a week after his shots (ended up putting him on antibiotics for suspected ear infection).. just a tip, Ped said if the fever persists longer than 48 hours, it's most likely not due from the shots.. I hope little babe is feeling better!!! FWIW, DS handled his 4 month shots MUCH better.. (((hugs)))
