Pregnant after 35

Thanksgiving plans?

What are you all doing for Thanksgiving?  I know there are several ladies here going through hard times with their babies and my heart goes out to all of you dealing with this over the holidays especially.  Big hugs to all of you.

I plan on sleeping in and then doing some baking while watching the parade.  We are going to a big family gathering at my aunt and uncle's house so I'm excited for that.  We will stop by my sil's later too because they have some out of towners coming in and we want to see them.  I'm glad to not be hosting and doing the cooking this year, just the eating!  I'm finally gonna bust out my new maternity jeans haha.

Re: Thanksgiving plans?

  • Maternity jeans are the most awesome thing on the planet followed only by the cargo pants that I can wear to work on a Friday like day.  I baked two pies after work yesterday and will start Thanksgiving cooking as soon as I can leave work today.  We can leave work 3 hours early but DH can't leave until 4 and I don't want to take the metro or a cab home so I will stay until he can get me.

Tomorrow I will cook all day and we will watch the parade.  All this cooking and it is just DH and me.  I have heard him tell several people that this is a really special Thanksgiving and he is happy that no one else was invited since our lives are about to change.

DC is having their first Holiday parade on Saturday.  We got bleacher seats so that I don't have to stand or sit on the sidewalk.  I am really excited about that.

I hope everyone has a beautiful holiday!

That is really sweet about your DH and it sounds like you will have a great Thanksgiving.  The parade sounds like so much fun too!  We visited DC for the first time in April and had the best time.

  • We declined a few invitations and also did not invite any friends over, but I still plan to cook but not as elaborate, but will be lounging in my pjs watching football, reading the BF ads and possibly take the dog to the park. So a chillaxing thanksgiving.
  • One of my favorite Thanksgivings was when I had a bad cold and didn't travel and DH and I stayed home and roasted a chicken!

Jumping on a flight to Florida very early tomorrow morning to spend a few days with my parents, I ordered a maternity bathing suit but I don't think i'm going to get it in time, bummer. I'm preparing DH for the 900 questions about the LO that I'm sure we'll be getting bombarded with. Have a nice Holiday everyone!!!

  • Shell- I like your plans- can we trade? :)

My dad is in town w/his wife- it will be fun, but it's lots of work and I'm already tired.
Luckily, I've prepped almost everything, so tomorrow's just about throwing a few things in the oven and making sure the table's set. :) My MIL is also bringing some items, so that is def. a blessing that I don't have to do it all!

Last year we hosted for about 20 which is fun but its nice to have a break too.  All our immediate family lives relatively close so no one ever has to stay with us or vice versa thank god.  I can imagine you will have lots of work but I hope you have fun too!

  • Everyone sounds like they are having a fun holiday!

When my DH and I moved into our house in 2005 we had a custom sectional made for the huge family room.  It seats like 20 people comfortably.  We hosted Thanksgiving that first year and my Uncle said everyone was so comfortable that he nominated our house every year for Thanksgiving!

It's good because I delegate all the food and it forces me to do my annual deep cleaning! We are having 27 adults and 8 kids for a sit down dinner!!  This is the most we've had ever!

Travel safely everyone and have fun!!

  • We're heading down to San Diego tomorrow for Thanksgiving at my cousin's house.  We're having a big family get together this year so it'll be great to see all my cousins, aunts, and uncles! This Thanksgiving is going to be tough too since it's our first without my father, who was the big patriarch of the whole family.  Combined with my pregnancy hormones, I'm sure it will be emotional ( I had a crying episode last night when I was talking to my husband about who would carve the turkey)...can you say emotional eating??? Good thing I have my maternity jeans!

     Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

  • We should have a very relaxing Thanksgiving. We are going to my SIL for dinner. Everyone brings something and she nominated us for the shrimp appetizer which consists of defrosting frozen pre-cooked shrimp and whipping together coctail sauce. This will be the first thanksgiving in a while I'm not cooking - either becuase we've previously hosted or because we're brpught multiple dishes to the dinner at someone else's house. I'm going to enjoy watching the Detroit Thanksgiving parade on TV and lounging around until it's time to go eat.
