Professional Newborn Photo Session?

What does everyone think about getting a photographer to come to your home to do a newborn photo session? ?I was considering this so I would get a good pic for the announcements, but looked into it and it is pricey! ?

Then, I just saw a slide show of someone's newborn photo session and it was beautiful, actually brought tears to my eyes! ?So now I am reconsidering.

What do you think....waste of $$$, or are some of you considering this? ?I have priced it and it is about $300-$500 in my area. ?

Re: Professional Newborn Photo Session?

  • If you have the money, why not.  We don't have a large photo budget - only do pro pics a few times per year.

  • My newborns come with my maternity photos for $50!
  • We're doing it! It's about $400 for everything, session fee & photos. I think they're absolutely beautiful! I hate the cheesy studio pics.

Interesting that you live in VA, the photo shoot that I saw was also done in VA, this is their site in case you are interested:

  • We did it with DS, and we'll do it with this one. It's important to me to have good photos of them when they are tiny, and well worth the $$.
  • we did them with DD and are doing them again with this one. Worth every penny! the shots were gorgeous and are more like artwork than just pics.?
  • We're doing it.  I think it's a keepsake I'll always love looking at.
  • We will do it, but it isn't costing us anywhere close to the estimates you've gotten.  My friend referred me to a photographer she uses.  It's $50 sitting fee.  She then puts the pictures up on her website, and you pick what you want.  I think an 8x10 is $8.95.  We should be able to do the sitting and get plenty of pictures for $150-$200.

  • We are doing it, but its because our hospital does it instead of the standard newborn photo.  They have professional photographers that come into the hospital and do a photo shoot in your room for free.  They only charge for the prints you want to order.
  • Diffinately recommend it. I am photographer and they are my favs. you can see some samples at www.blissphotographymn.blogspot.com just click on Bliss Babies for samples. They are only that age once. Check around for more pricing options. It doesn't have to cost a fortune.

  • I have one of my best friends documenting the day we come home with him and taking some more when we get to the house.  It's a hobby of his. But I think that I still want to do professional ones done at a later date. I think I may do it when he gets Christened. I just kind of feel like we can then get pictures with the rest of the family to and it will be more worth the money.

  • I guess I am lucky - my professional photo shoot will only cost me about $150...if that.  The person who did our wedding has become our family photographer and I use her for all our important events so she never charges me full price.

Besides that I trust her to come to my home and I feel safe with her - and she does great work!!!

    I cant wait.
