I rented Brave tonight to decide whether or not to buy it. It was really, really good.
And I bawled my eyes out towards the end with the mom/daughter moment.
Since becoming a mother, do you have movies that mean more to you because of the mom/child bond portrayed in them?
My favorite movie mom moment (breaks my heart every time) is Sally Field's speech in Steel Magnolias.
Re: favorite mom/child movies (I promise - last post for the day!)
I missed that one - or maybe I saw it when I was a kid and don't remember. I loved the Chipmunks and watched them every Saturday morning.
OK... I know this is lame, too.
In the movie, Life As We Know It with Catherine Heigl, when the little girl finally says Mommy. She says it to Heigl, and I'm bawling hysterically. DH is trying to comfort me.
Him: "That's pretty cute isn't it?"
Me: ::narrowed eyes:: "That's not her mother!! She'll never know her MOTHER!!"
I can't take those kinds of movies. No kidnappings, sick kids or dying mothers (unless they're old and dying having watched their kids grow). I can't stand the idea of my kids growing up without me. I can't stand the idea of growing old without my kids.
My favorite mom/kid movie is The Little Engine that Could (it has Jamie Lee Curtis and Whoopi Goldberg and Patrick Warburton). It's what inspired me to start my weight-loss kick, and I think it just drives home a very good message. You really can do anything you set your mind to. If you want it, you will find a way (obviously within the realm of physically possible). It has really cute original songs, and I don't mind watching it daily.
