Pregnant after a Loss

History of 3 cerclages but they say I dont need another!

Ladies I lost a 23 week baby 10 years ago and have had 3 cerclages and 3 healthy kids. I am prego with #5 and the new docs say I do not need a cerclage. What? But after talking with them I hope they are right and I have a healty full term little boy. It is hard to believe that I do not need one. Anyone have a cerclage and then not get one with a later pregnancy?

We are doing weekly cervical lengths to watch and if cervix changes then I will get one. They say the new research and the risks say do not do it. I am a little nervous but I will trust in this new high risk group of doctors.

Do you think I am crazy for not getting a 4th cercalge? Had a cervical length today that looked great. They tell me the risks are no different now to place it as later as long as I do not have a buldging bag or contractions so I am hoping with weekly cervical lenghts we will catch any changes early.

They tell me what I had with the loss was preterm labor and not cervical incompatance because I had pain associated with it.

  • I have always got a cerclage at 12-13 weeks and then have it removed at 36 weeks. I carried all the the kids to 38 weeks and made them induce me Smile. I also get 17 p with the preg. I did not have 17p with my son 9 years ago and had PTL with a cerclage and bedrest. With the girls I had a cerclage 17 p and no bedrest. The docs are saying that the cerclage caused the PTL with my son and the 17p relaxed the uterus with the girls while I had the cerclage hince no PTL.

  • I lost twins at 23 weeks due to Infection/ IC.

I asked about a cerclage when I was pregnant with my son and was told I didn't need one. He was stubborn and needed to be induced to come out.

Now I'm pregnant with twins, and I asked the same question about a cerclage, due to twins and higher risk and was told again they would monitor and make sure they caught any dramatic changes right away. As of Monday my cervix is still over 5mm.

I hope you have a very easy pregnancy.
