Soy Milk

Any of you ladies give you child soy milk?

I know some of your children have had issues with dairy.  D has been very contipated since going on Whole Milk and I've heard of Soy Milk be a good alternative.

What's the scoop?  What brand do you use?

I've also heard almond milk is good too but most don't use until after age 2 b/c of nut allergies.

Suggestions or advice is appreciated.  Thanks, Happy Turkey Day!

Re: Soy Milk

  • R has a dairy allergy, but he refuses to drink soy milk or almond milk.  He's BF and I think it's a texture issue - BM is thinner, and almond and soy milks are thicker.  He'll drink enriched rice milk okay, though - it has a consistency more like BM.

So there's this boy. He kinda stole my heart. He calls me "Mom"

  • The LO I babysit had a milk protein intolerance, so they had LO on soy milk for a while, but switched to almond milk. Their pedi told them soy has possibly been linked to endocrine system issues, and since this LO has Downs and a higher risk of eondocrine issues already, almond was a better alternative.

I also heard from my super organic green friend that soy has a chemical or hormone in it that acts like estrogen and they are linking it to future fertility issues. Don't know how much of this is true and how much is green conspiracy theory but I wouldn't substitute milk completely with it. Almond milk seems like the way to go to me.

  • We do almond milk because A can't do dairy. He does great with it. We don't have any nut allergies in the family so our pedi was okay using it. She also mentioned coconut milk if he wouldn't drink the almond milk.

  • Thank you Ladies.

I'll think we'll give that a try.  Maybe cut out the whole milk except for at daycare and give almond milk at home.  I hope it helps her potty issues.  Poor thing is pooping golf balls and she screams & crys.  Breaks your heart.  We've done prunes and juice and then she has the runs.  I just want to find a happy medium for her.

  • CocOnut milk is another good alternative.  It is what I feed Halle as she if off dairy and all nuts.  We occassionally use soy, but I don't feel comfy with it being her regular milk drink.
