Early measuring ?

Hi ladies--I hope you don't mind me popping in to ask a quick question.

MH and I underwent IVF in October and are thankful to have been successful. At our first u/s (at 5w6d) we saw one perfect little bean. The tech looked around and said she saw a "probable bleed" that had a small small chance of MAYBE being another baby but she'd bet it was a bleed.

Fast forward to yesterday and u/s #2 at 7 weeks and our perfect bean is measuring 6w3d with a heartbeat of 129! The bleed is gone too---replaced by a second heartbeat. This baby is measuring quite small though. HB of 114 and was measuring 6w0d. The tech and nurse both said my RE likes the baby to be measuring within 4 days of how far along I am and like the HB at least 120.

They went through the whole speal of it could be-late implanter, just measure small, or not be viable. we have our 3rd U/S on Monday.

Anyone had a similar expereince (positive or negative) in the beginning or throughout the whole pregnancy. You can be totally honest. Smile

THANK YOU!

Re: Early measuring ?

  • I just wanted to say CONGRATS!!!  I used to be on TTGP, not super active, but I am just so excited for you and your husband!

I didn?t go through IVF, but I also had a small bleed at my ~6w and ~8w u/s at my RE?s office.  They let me know about it and said it should clear on its own but didn?t dive too deep on what it meant to be there or the possible implications ? I honestly didn?t want to know and my RE didn?t seem too concerned but still wanted me to know.  He said it should clear itself by my 3rd u/s (@ ~10w ) but if it didn?t we could discuss further.  Mine cleared on its own by that 3rd u/s?

FWIW, my boys have always measured a few days apart and especially at the beginning my RE told me that they are so small that the estimates given from their measurements being different don?t concern him too much as long as they are both progressing and growing at a rate that is appropriate for them.

Hope your u/s goes well on Monday ? you?ll be in my thoughts!

  • My twins have always measured within a day of each other so I'm no help there but they have both measured at least three days behind how far I am and no one has ever said anything about it.  Good luck!

  • My twins were always a couple days apart in measurements early on.  They are within a day of each other now.

    Good luck and congrats!

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

  • Holy crap KDG! Great to see you here! I know my experience is different, but our third babies heartbeat started off slower than the others. She made it, we are the proud parents of three now!

Good luck, I just wanted to say congrats!!!

  • Congratulations on your little blueberries!

I don't have any experience with a bleed, but my twins have measured larger and smaller than their gestational age at different appointments.  Sometimes I think it's just a timing issue.  If they hit a growth spurt the day after your appointment, they will measure small, but if they do it the day before they measure a little large.  I pray they continue to grow health and strong.

  • My twins have mostly measured withing a few days of each other.  I think the furthest apart they were was 3 days.

However, at my 7w u/s the heartrates were very different and 1 of them was only at 121 (the other was 146).  Now at 13w they are both measuring the exact same.

    Best of luck.

  • My RE said that as long as a baby is measuring within a week of how far along you should be, that's OK. At my 6, 8, and 10 week ultrasounds, both of my babies were measuring about 3-4 days behind what they should have been based on my ER date. However, by 13 weeks, they'd both caught up and were measuring a day ahead. Good luck!!

  • Thanks ladies.  I'm starting to think my RE is ultra ultra conservative.  I guess his worry comes more from the fact baby B is a week behind in development from where I was yesterday.  Baby 6w versus my 7w.  And the heartbeat was a bit lower than "what he likes to see" 114 versus 120.  Last week we thought we had a bleed and this week we had another baby, so that (to me) mkaes sense why it would be smaller.

At this point we'll just keep thinking positive and wait (impatiently) for Monday!

  • Congrats!

My girls were not from IVF but at the first few u/s (first being 6w4d) there were a few days difference and extremely different heart rates. By around 14 weeks, they stayed pretty much identical on measurements.

     Good luck!

  • I had your exact same experience. My fertility doc, who we absolutely adored, was very cautious about baby b at the beginning. His exact words were "I can't promise you are having two babies." Baby b got bigger and stronger each week and when he released us to OB care at 9.5 weeks he said "Congrats, looks like twins now!" Baby b has always measured a little bit smaller, but perfectly healthy. We have to remember they are two different embryos and therefore two totally different people. Good luck!
