car seat: plain or pattern?

I think I've settled on the diono radianrdx convertible car seat.  Hard part done! But it comes in like eight colors.

Should I go with true spring flowery print or a solid color? I want dd to enjoy it and feel like it is hers but do kids really care about the color or their cat seat? Otherwise I'll go with a solid that matches the car.  Big purchase so I want to get it right

I can't figure out how to copy/paste a pic or link on my nexus tablet...

Re: car seat: plain or pattern?

  • I went for solid dark grey for both of our radians, which is the color of my car interior. I'm glad I did because once baby boy moves to a convertible he'll be inheriting the radians in both cars and Emma will be moving to either a combination seat or booster seat. While neither of my girls had a problem with the solid grey I could see a 2-4 year old boy having a problem with a floral seat!

  • We have the RXT in plum LOVE IT and it is amazingly soft! The flowery pattern is soft also so I wouldn't mind that one either.
Just make sure you check out the different covers in person since they are all made out of very different materials. The blue and red are both slick material and a few, not sure which, are mesh and then there are also the ultrasuedes like our plum and the flora.

  • I have the sunshine kids (what Diono was previously) in a gray/ black pattern and its nice.  The materal is kind of silky and easy to wipe down.  I went with neutral thinking it would be better should I ever have a boy but now I'm thinking ill likely buy a new convertible for the next one since they are in them so long, DD will probably still be using it.

DD doesn't really seem to care too much about her seat,  but I have a feeling she'd get excited over a girly pattern:)

ETA:  I just checked the patterns.  The one I have is shadow.  I'm not crazy about the spring flowers so I'd probably buy either plum or whatever matched my car.  When I purchased mine they had a really cute pink floral pattern but I guess it was discontinued.

  • Mine is in Shadow as well. When I saw the floral fabric in person, I knew it would end up looking dirty and staying that way. We had the same fabric on another seat and it looked like heck. The Shadow wipes down clean and stays that way. I am a little sad that we don't have a fun looking cover, but the fabric sucked. So, my answer is whatever cover has the better fabric. Diono's ultrasuede doesn't do too bad (we have one as a spare in Grandma's car), it is a bit more work though.
  • My vote is to go neutral.  Then if you have another baby down the road and its a boy, you won't feel like you have to get a new, non-flowery seat.
