DH is absolutely in love with the name Nova for a girl. I'm okay with it, and it has some sentimental meaning to us, although I love my first choice more, but I quite like it with the middle name we picked (Sophia). I think it flows really nicely -- Nova Sophia boringlastname. My main concern is that Nova is just too odd. DH argues strenuously that it isn't, but I just really don't want to deal with that look on people's faces when you tell them the name and they don't know what to make of it so they just look politely uncomprehending.

Re: Is Nova too weird?
I honestly thought it would be for a boy when I opened the thread.
Also, First name Nova middle name starts with S - my mind automatically thinks Nova Scotia
Overall, I don't like it for a girl.

Sorry.
I'm from Nova Scotia, and my best friend's dog is named Nova, so I am having a hard time getting on board with it as a name for a person.
I could go the middle name route, though.
I just asked my DH what he thinks of Nova for a girl's name because I knew he'd find it interesting and he goes "if anybody is going to name their girl a Nova that should be me and I am not doing it." He is obsessed with Chevy cars and has redone a few Novas, and is always reading or talking to his brother/dad about Novas..
I wouldn't pick Nova for a girl's FN, maybe a middle name or nick name..
I know a Nova and have always loved her name. Also, she's a very beautiful woman... :-)
Not sure about Nova Sophia... but then I don't really love Sophia.
Well... I do think it is weird, but I don't think it is too weird if that makes sense.
It makes me think of a super nova so I would assume you were a very sciency family. Not a bad thing at all.
I definitely sympathize with wanting an interesting, uncommon first name when you are working with a boring LN.
The only other time I have heard it is on Teen Mom.
Me too. I don't like it... sorry, OP.

Sorry OP.
That's exactly what I thought!
Offering up Neveah as a name suggestion will not make you popular here. Nova may be off-beat but at least it's not backwards. I like the name Nova but Dh nixed that idea a long time ago.
this. although i think Nova Sophia does sound nice
what about Nora instead...almost the same name!
