We are going to have our first baby, a girl, early March and we would love to have a few nice newborn pictures of her. I am currently not working so we are money conscious; my DH and I both agreed that the newborn phase is so short and precious and we'd really like to capture it.
Also, do people usually go to the photographer for newborn pictures or does the photographer come to your house with their photography gear? how does it work usually?
Re: Northend newborn photographer recommendation
Thanks so much! I took a look at her site. $125 fee session is okay, but we can't afford $450 for the photos. Is that really the norm? Maybe I am in for a rude awakening if digital pictures cost $450...yikes...
We did Bella Baby Photography through our hospital-Swedish First Hill. It was easy to have the nurse page them, and then we were able to get the newborn pictures for my son. My son was born early at close to 31 weeks, so we decided to do the pictures the day that he left the hospital (no wires attached). We really liked his pictures, and my mother purchased the rights to the pictures by CD.
I will note that my pictures with Bella Baby Photography for my daughter did not turn out as well. The good thing is that I did not owe anything even for the photo session, and it was more up to me if I wanted to purchase the rights to the photos or to the newborn pictures.

For a custom, in home, experienced newborn photographer, I would say that is a phenomenal deal. I have experience in newborn photography and to capture what Jessica does requires a lot of skill, patience and talent. I think that photography is definitely one of those things where you get what you pay for. JMO! I follow several newborn photogs and a couple of them out on the east coast are in the range of $1500+ for digital images. It's important to keep in mind that they're only this new for a VERY narrow window of time. I am also a photographer (though not actively taking clients), so I understand all that goes into it from the other side of things. It's a lot more than just showing up and snapping the shutter a few times!
Yes, I agree wholeheartedly, but given one of us is working currently, we have to be money conscious unfortunately..Otherwise I'd love to have a talented and experienced photographer capture the short window that our baby will be a newborn. Thanks so much for your help.
I totally understand! We're looking at the possibility of DH taking a 25% pay cut.
Just in time for our LO to arrive. Gah! Hope you find someone!
I'm not sure about exact prices, but here's three I've either used or bookmarked for future use because they had advertised what I considered reasonable prices: (not clicky, sorry you gotta c&p)

Jessica Raney. She did some family pictures for us last year and I can't wait for her to take pictures of our new baby when he is born.
