Anyone else not walking?

We just went to our 15 month appointment and the doctor said she is not concerned that my son wasn't walking on his own because he can cruise really well and walk holding onto things with wheels.  I just wanted to see if anyone else out there is not walking at 15 months becuase all the other babies I know are and the doctor said she would refer my son to an OT if he wasn't walking by 18 months.  Thanks for the moral support :).

Re: Anyone else not walking?

  • It sounds like he is getting very close to walking. Hang in there just a few more months, and I bet he will be running all over the place. Is he standing independently at all? Will he let go of the walking toy at all?

My friend's pediatrician told her the same thing when one of her twins wasn't walking at 15 months. He just turned 18 months, and he is all over the place now.

My DS isn't walking yet either. He will be 16 months next weekend.

No worries. Yet. But it'd be nice if she walked before Christmas.

  • Lj isn't. We aren't concerned because she cruises very well and will do a few steps here and there with encouragement. Once he feels safe and builds up enough confidence he will do it!

  • Ellie started walking just before 15 months.  It seemed like forever and everyone else's baby was walking.  It was hard not to worry, but she really is just a cautious and easygoing kid.  She cruised for a long time and was great at it...just a little timid to let go.  I encouraged her to walk by holding onto my hands, and then switched her to just holding onto one hand.  It was a process.  Now that she's older I can see how it was just a part of her personality.

  • DD isn't walking yet either. She cruises along things well and will take up to 4 steps and stand up independently. She will walk eventually! They all do :)

  • Thanks all.  He stood on his own a few times, but hasn't taken any solo steps.  He doesn't really like to walk holding hands, either.  Just cruising or with a "walking toy."  I know it will come eventually, I just don't want him to have to go to an OT.  Thanks for making me feel better.
