GTKY

What do you do for a living? Working mom? (what do you do?)   SAHM? And how long have you been doing it?

Re: GTKY

  • I am a working mom, for now anyways... I'd like to become a SAHM when #2 gets here...

But, right now I work at a company in the contract department for installing security systems and  fiber to the home/business.   I also am a dog groomer in my home nights and weekends.   I have been at my company for 18 months, and have been grooming for about 4 years.

  • I was a teacher. I quit 3 years ago when I had my first son. Now I get to stay home with both of my boys!!!
  • I was an Animal Health Technician working in research when DH and I met. He's military so that only lasted another year before I moved out to his new posting. Since then we've moved 3 more times, so finding work in my field has been near impossible. I've worked jobs here and there but nothing appealing to my passion.

I've worked retail for the past year in our new location which is fun and the girls are great but now I have the chance to be a SAHM but an offer came through recently from our local Humane Socitey, so I'm battling with that choice. I really want to stay home but I miss working with the animals so I'm contemplating working part time and possibly being a full SAHM when the next one comes along.

  • I'm a pharmacist and currently work in the long term care sector. I only work PT, which is nice. I enjoy my job and it's flexibility.

I've been working in a pharmacy since I was a sophomore in high school, so 15 years. Geez, that makes me feel old. I've been a pharmacist for 6.5 years.
  • I'm gonna join in, been MIA since having my world turned upside down with 3 under 3 :) I work as a dental hygienist between 3-4 days a week. And my days are only 6 hour days. So my kids are home enough to never have a clean home :) I enjoy my job and getting out of the home for awhile. Cleaning teeth is fun when you're not preggo and sick all the time!

  • I work for our local government....doing a little bit of everything from accounting to HR. Currently looking for something else. I've been in this position for four years. I also do real estate. My degree is in Marketing. I'm hoping to get into one of the local hospitals or in a healthcare environment.

  • I stopped working a year ago last September, I think I was about 7 weeks pregnant. I was the manager at Williams-Sonoma. I quit because DH got a great new job out of state so we moved and we decided I wouldn't go back to work after moving. We both wanted me to be a stay at home mom and so it worked out perfectly.

  • I'm a Special Education Teacher in an elementary school.  Its my fifth year teaching and I don't think I would do anything else as a career.  I long to be a SAHM, though.  (I'm sure you've all heard my vents/rants/pity parties by now so I won't continue!)  We are trying to figure out if we can swing me being part time next year though.

  • I'm an Acquisition Project Specialist for the Air Force. When the gov't acquires new weapons, there is a mountain of red tape and laws that need to be followed and an even larger mountain of documentation to show we are in compliance with said laws. I'm the lucky girl that gets to research the laws and make sure that we are in compliance and document our compliance. I've been in my current office for about 2 yrs. One day I hope to be a Program Manager. Before that I was an analyst on a jet program.

  • I am a manager at a retail clothing outlet. I have been with my current company since July 2010 but started in retail managment 9 years ago.

I currently am using my FMLA intermittently so I only work 2 to 3 days each week and use a portion of my FMLA time, broken down into hours, each week to make up the difference between my required hours and those that I actually work. It's great because I didn't have to quit or demote myself or take a pay cut, and it translates into about 6 months of only working 2 or 3 days! It began in September so I pretty much have until Marchish before DH and I have to reevaluate whether or not it is worth it for me to stay at my job or become a SAHM.

  • I am currently a waitress while I finish my Bachelor's degree (about 1 1/2 years to go). It's been 6 months since I started back at this job, although I worked at this same restaurant for 2 1/2 years previously.

  • I work in customer service at a trucking company.  It's a call center environment.  Honestly, I do like it, even though it has nothing to do with my Bachelor's in Marketing.  But I want to focus on my DS and working 40 hours and not a minute over, and not really having to put a whole lot in to my job is what I want. :)  I never was a career girl anyway. :)

  • I am a project manager and install payroll/hr software systems.  I work from home almost 100% of the time but the kids go to my MIL's every day.  I would love to be a SAHM but it is not in the cards right now.  Hoping one day that I could at least go part time.

  • i'm a full time middle school technology teacher and a photographer!

i've been teaching for 7 years now and love having my own lab!  the photog thing I starting doing prob about 5 years ago and do love the extra income that brings in as well!  (DH isn't a big fan of the 8 hour saturday night weddings... too bad!)

i'm happy where i am and don't see anything changing too much in the near future!

  • I'm a property manager. My community is close to home and DD's daycare is less than 5 minutes away which is nice. I've only been at my current property since July but have been in the property management business for roughly 7 years.

  • SAHM at the moment, but not entirely by choice. I do have an interview next week for a PT evening position that would be prefect, so we'll see what happens - my dream is to do something administrative at the higher ed level.
