Pregnant after 35

My OB needs to cut my website privileges:(

My OB office is connected to a local hospital and all patients have direct web access to test results as they become available. It's certainly a very convenient way to review all your records but I'm becoming a little obsessive and most likely not in a healthy way. Somebody needs to block me!

I had my regular appt yesterday, and she said things are going perfectly and she's' extremely happy with everything so far, cervix is fine. I have to schedule my A/S ultrasound in 2 weeks. So  this morning I get my test results from the cervix scan that includes biometry results as well and I really have no clue what they mean but I can't help obsessing that something might be wrong. Everything measures on date or 1 or 2 days behind (which based on my ovulation date makes sense) but the %'s seem low, like 30% for head circumferance, DH has a HUGE head and then 20% for femur, but then I look at comparison ratios and everything is within range. Do you see what I mean, someone stop me I'm my own worst enemy!

  • I would be the same way.. Don't forget your DNA gets figured into the baby too. Are you tinier? If there are any major red flags they will let you know. Good luck at your next ultrasound.

  • I totally do the exact same thing!  Just remember that if there was a cause for concern then they would let you know.  Stop torturing yourself and trust that everything is fine.

  • Block yourself!!! You have TMI!!! I know after things going terribly wrong it's hard to believe they can be ok. Try to have some faith and let them be in charge for a bit. Easier said then done, but you need to try. By the time baby gets here you will be so worn out and that's when the work really begins!! Happy Thanksgiving, enjoy the now!

  • Obsessing over results without a full understanding of what they mean is a guaranteed recipe for stress. As PPs have said, just try and let it go. (My thought was maybe your baby is just a little smaller than average--which would mean an easier labor and delivery for you!) You can certainly ask your OB at the next app't about those figures, but if something were truly wrong, they would have contacted you.

  • Thanks Ladies, I need a good hysterical slap.. I guess anything between 10-90% is normal based on the chart ranges they provided, so looks like we're good based on that. I'm 5'4" and maybe slightly smaller than normal and DH is only 5'9" and a stout scotsman, so makes sense we'd have a smaller baby.. My OB mentioned at my appt that I appeared to be more relaxed about things, HA, if she only knew..

  • You are also forgetting one crucial point-- after about 12/13 weeks, babies start growing at a wide range of rates. So it doesn't even matter if one parent's head is large or small or if one of you is taller or shorter than average. Your baby is growing at its own unique rate, which is different than every other baby's. That's why the ranges are so large!

  • I know what you mean!  I'm here to tell you though that this is one of the side effects of being a mother, and it won't stop once they're born.  My daughter is 2 and on the petite side, and I still worry about it (mainly because DH and I are both 5'10", so not small).  I've calmed down a bit by talking to other moms and realizing that babies and kids grow at their own rate, and it won't necessarily be the same as the rate you grew at.  I don't obsess as much as I used to.  But she was a little behind even in the womb so, like you, that's when my worrying started!  Anyways, if the doctors aren't worried, you shouldn't be either.  There's a reason there are ranges for these things, and that's because every kid is different, and there is a wide range of normal.
