Anyone deliver at Christiana Hospital? Me an my DH are about to have our first baby. My due date is September 22, but if I don't go in labor I'll be induced September 28th. Just wondering how many days is the mandatory stay, how was your experience with care and is there somewhere for your spouse to sleep or recline in your room...? Please tell about your experience with an induction if you had to go through the ordeal. Thanks ahead of time:
Re: Christiana Hospital 1st Baby
hello and congratulations!!
I don't have any children but my SIL just had her first baby and the room she was in had two beds, one for her and one for BIL and both beds had their own tv's attached to them. I think my neice was born on a Friday afternoon and my SIL was home on Sunday morning.
I know several of the other girls on here have delivered at Christiana so hopefully they can give you more feedback. for what its worth I've only heard good things about Christiana.
Please come back and tell us how it all went! Do you know if you're having a boy or a girl?

Christiana was great! You have a really nice private birthing room where you can labor and deliver and have your husband and a couple family members (if you want) in there with you. It has a bathroom and shower and stuff in there as well.
I started off in there, then went in for a c-section -- the operating rooms were really close. And once we were done in there, we went to our recovery room -- baby was with me the whole time. Even with the c section, she never left the room, they did all the cleaning up and weighing her, etc right there. Once I was stiched up, I was able to hold her as they took me to the recovery room.
I had a private room that had 2 beds, one for me and husband and the baby was between us. We had the option of putting her in the nursery at night if needed (I didn't think I would use it, but tried it one night and it was SO helpful! I got a decent few hours of sleep, and they just brought her in for feedings. Take advantage of it!
The nurses and staff were really great. Food was decent for hospital food. We went in on a Monday and left on a Thursday (due to the c section). I almost left on Wednesday but the baby had a little jaundice. So as long as you're feeling good, they won't keep you for a certain amount of time, it's up to you. As long as you and the baby are doing well. I think it's usually like 48 hours for vaginal deliveries?

Well, my birthday is the 22nd so I hope you go then. :-)
There was another post about Christiana that I responded to. I'd cut and paste, but I'm on my phone. Its at the bottom of the page of posts. I was induced and it went very well. Everyone was so nice. Do you have any specific questions about it.
Welcome and congrats!! I had both my boys at Christiana and it was a great experience both times.
My first I went into labor on my own, had a vaginal delivery. I went in on Sat and got discharged on Monday. My second I was induced. I got induced on Monday and had a vaginal delivery and got discharged on Wed.
There is a chair and a bench in the delivery rooms, not super comfortable, but it is something. They had sheets if your DH wants to make a little bed out of the bench, that's what my husband did when I had to go in to get induced. When you get into the actual room, its nice. It's private there is a bed for your DH and the baby gets to be in the room with you the entire time.
As far as the induction goes mine went really well. I had to go in at 1 am Monday morning to start antibiotics because I was positive for strep. Once I got in and got into my room they started my antibiotics around 2:15-2:30am, then I tried to sleep. I finished my antibiotics around 6:00am and then they started me on pitocin. My Dr came in around 7:30am checked me, I was 3cm and broke my water and told me I could get my epi whenever I wanted. I finally asked for my epi around 8:15 and got it around 9:30am. I progressed pretty fast, one nurse check me around 11am and said I was fully dialated, the doctor came in and I started to push only to find out that I was only about 8cm, so then I waited a little longer. around 12:15 I started to feel some pressure and felt like me epi was wearing off, so I told the nurse, she checked and said I was 10cm. She called the doctor and around 12:45 I was ready to go! I pushed for 13 mins and had my DS at 1pm.
Overall the experience was great both times! Each one was different though, my first DS had some medical issues and had to go to the NICU, right away and was in there for a week, so he was never in the room with us. DS2 had no medical issues and was with us the entire time in the room.
I delivered my first baby at Christiana hosp in August 2012. I was induced on a Tuesday, delivered via unplanned c-section on Wed. At 3:52am & discharged on sat. The staff was very friendly. There are a lot of different nurses that will be in/ out of room during your stay. You are allowed 4 support people in delivery room. If you end up needing a c-section you are only allowed 1 person in Operating room. Once you are in recovery room - you are allowed as many visitors as you would like. There is a bed for your significant other in recovery room. In the delivery room there is a chAir & a window seat/bed thing. You'll have meals 3x a day. They take your order. A snack lady comes around too. Food isnt bad. My husband didnt get meals. Only the mother. I am catholic & I was offered communion while there & my baby was blessed. the induction wasn't bad. My water was broken. I was given pitocin (sp?) & I wante an epidural. It was given in timely manner & really helped me. I had them up it a couple times. It was a good experience for me & I ended up with a beautiful healthy child. Enjoy every moment of your experience & sleep when you can!
Awesome!! Congrats on your DD! Glad to hear you had a good experience! Both my boys were both low too, everyone always commented on how they could feel their heads when they checked me. Guess that helped the process go quick! Congrats again!!
