Where do you buy jeans?

I need new jeans. Badly.

I the past I would have gone to Gap or Old Navy and bought whatever was cheapest. Now, I'm thinking that I'd rather have one or two GREAT pair of jeans that fit me really, really well. I'm not sure where to start looking or what I should expect to pay. Any advice?

Re: Where do you buy jeans?

  • Go to a department store that stocks nice brands like 7, Paige, Citizens etc. Then try on a massive selection, and either buy them there ($200) or write down what you love and look for them on eBay where new ones are sometimes cheaper.

Premium denim is so worth it.

  • I like the Not Your Daughter's Jeans at Macy's. They run about $100+/pair. Totally worth it.
  • Oh also if you have a Nordstrom Rack around you they often have fancy discounted denim.

This is exactly what I just did.  I bought two pairs of Hudson jeans on eBay for $117 with shipping (I did the Buy It Now price).  For one pair of jeans at the store is $189.  This brand is the only one that really fits my non existent arse.

I LOVE Hudson Jeans!!  Heading to Ebay!  Nordstrom has a great selection!

This!  I usually go to Nordstrom or Nordstrom Rack.  I love my Citizens - they are so comfy!

I have 2 pairs of these now thanks to the personal stylist at Nordstrom. They are so comfy, very bendable (for chasing toddlers) and fit wonderfully.

  • I want to do the Nordstrom personal shopper thing like you did, Smit. How much money do I need to save up to make it worth my time? I figure $50 isn't going to cut it, huh?

  • I'm a big fan of Lucky Brand Jeans.  The Sophia Boot.  It all depends on your body type, so leave the LOs at home and plan a massive try-on fest.  Malls are best since you can git multiple stores.

Once you find a brand/style you like, keep buying them in all of their different shades and variations. :)

It's awesome to be able to walk into a store and say. I'll take those in a size "whatever" and be done.  :)

With that said, the darker the denim, the less give they have.  Sometimes, I need to get a size up in the really dark washes.

  • Oh yeah, pay attention to the fabrics, example 98% cotton and 2% elastin.  I returned a pair of pants last week because it quickly lost its shape and had no stretch to it.
