how fun! Thanksgiving plans are a little different this year. we are going to a cottage in Northern Ontario to do some repairs. My husband is Canadian and it's not Thanksgiving there so we might be in a diner eating stew! Just us i think, maybe his mom or sister.
What's your favorite food? the Green bean casserole and cornbread stuffing, rolls w butter. Any special Thanksgiving traditions? not yet not really.
My heart is as open as the sky.

2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.
We are having Thanksgiving at home with my in laws and my BIL (who we live with) I usually make everything with some help if I can wrangle it from Zach (my DH)
My absolute favorite food, especially at thanksgiving, is mashed potatoes... I cannot tell you many nights the past two weeks or so I DREAMED of thanksgiving dinner because of the thought of mashed potatoes and turkey. MMMM!
We don't have that many traditions, but I do have a bit of an embarrassing love affair with canned jellied cranberry sauce... My mom always told me the lines on the cylinder of the cranberry sauce were the cutting lines! I believed her for such a long time until I realized that they were just the can indents. Oh me.
My husband and I are going to my parents' house. I'm excited to see my parents and brother and sister and my extended family. For the first time, DH's parents and brother and sister are coming as well, so that should be fun. We live in Washington DC and are traveling up to CT to see everyone.
I'm most looking forward to the stuffing and the mashed potatoes with gravy!
As far as traditions, we run a 5 mile road race every Thanksgiving-- my uncle, some friends, my husband and I, and this year my brother-in-law will be joining. Hopefully everything goes well!
What? You mean my mom doesn't actually have some special cranberry sauce mold that makes them look that way???
Hehe I still love seeing you back on the boards.
My mom's family always gets together for Thanksgiving. We rotate which aunt's house we go to and there are about 30-40 people. From day 1 DH and I have agreed that this is a tradition we will continue to participate in every year because it is the only time my mom's family gets together most years. This will involve a 3+ hour drive each way for us.
My favorite Thanksgiving food is a homemade cranberry relish that my cousin makes. I smother my turkey in it every year.
And my Thanksgiving vent: this year, as of now, there will not be mashed potatoes! Why, you ask? Because 1 of my adult cousins does not eat them. Forget the other 30-40 people that will be there.

No traveling for us, we are deep frying a turkey just like every year and FIL is coming over. We will have the turkey, mashed taters, gravy, corn, cranberry sauce and cheddar bay biscuits. Our thing every year is a deep fried turkey, early dinner and then shopping! We get awesome deals and are able to get everyone something. Otherwise we couldn't pull it off.
Funny you say that, MsAmandaPants--This is my first Thanksgiving in 31 years where I won't be eating turkey because I recently became a vegetarian.
Thanksgiving for my family used to be pretty traditional--10 years ago though, my dad died and then things got a little wonky w/ our family tradition. Since then my mom has started dating again and my brother got married. So every other year my mom goes to her boyfriend's thanksgiving.
So this year is the year she goes, so hubby and I will be home (with our vegetarian holiday roast--he isn't vege, but he's a good sport for me).
I caught that there's a Season 2 of Downton Abbey marathon on PBS--pretty sure I'll be jumping in on that!
I too LOVE canned cranberry sauce! My healthy California aunt once brought homemade and I was disappointed
We will be having Thanksgiving at our house this year. DH couldn't get time off for us to fly back to Cali so we are hosting 4 of his coworkers (and 2 of their girlfriends) who were transferred out to AR with us. I've met all of them and we all get along really well so I'm sure it will be fun but this is the first year that I have not been home for the holidays (plus it's my b-day this year). I'm hoping I'll be too busy to be homesick.
My favorite food is the pecan pie. I make it w/ dark karo syrup and dark brown sugar so it's extra carmely tasting.
We don't really have any traditions except I always put up the tree as soon as the holiday is over. Once it's up I like to turn off all the lights and sit and look at it with a nice cup of cocoa. Then I usually have to put on Love Actually or White Christmas.

I agree this is crazy! Why would you stop making mashed taters just for one person! Have them bring their own side dish!!
Well, normally, my mom and I host Thanksgiving. We have every year for the past 5 years. It's either at her house or our house, and she and I cook everything! We start researching for new recipes to try as soon as my Thanksgiving issue of Food & Wine arrives in early October! We would make at least one or two new recipes each year, and everything we made from scratch... We would spend the two days leading up to Thanksgiving cooking, baking, etc. Cooking was such a huge part of our relationship, mom is the reason I started my own catering company (tiny as it is).
This year, I was planning on boycotting Thanksgiving (told DH we were having Chinese takeout) since mom died in September. I couldn't even read my Food & Wine- I threw it out... But my dad invited us to his house to celebrate my birthday (it's on the 24th) because I said I didn't want to celebrate Thanksgiving this year. So, DH, my brother (he lives with us) and I will be heading to NJ on Thursday. I will be cooking a little with my dad (I know I won't be able to help myself, it's the Chef in me) and will bake a couple pies tomorrow, along with making my candied cranberries.
My favorite food on turkey day would have to be stuffing! I adore stuffing, and mom and I would make 2 or 3 different kinds every year, because we could never decide on just one. Mashed potatoes pull a close second...
That's it for me. This whole week has been hard, and it's really weird for me to not be in full on prep mode right now. I know Thursday is going to suck, but I will try my best to put on a good face for my family. I hope all you ladies and your families have a wonderful Thanksgiving surrounded by those you love most.
I'm going over to my sister's who is hosting the family this year. Luckily she only lives 15 minutes away now that we have moved. It will be my DH, me, DD, mom, dad, two sisters, two BIL and my niece. She is also having her IL, SIL and aunt and uncle come. I am most looking forward to this incredible salad we have at Thanksgiving. It's a luxury! Really, I look forward to the whole meal. Usually after dinner we "kids" decorate a gingerbread house. I go black Friday shopping with my middle sister and then we go and decorate my parent's house for Christmas. This year will be different since we have our houses to decorate. I also have a doctor's appointment that day. I'm looking forward to it!
