My pterodactyl baby has returned

I was so excited a few months back when L stopped that awful screeching. I thought we were in the clear.. but noooo. It has returned with a vengeance (? I hope that's the correct word here)

Before, she would screech and it would only be when she was happy or excited, and it was manageable. Now, she will screech when she is upset as well. I've noticed it is mainly when she wants something/doesn't want something. (ex: wants her toy/doesn't want to take a nap)

The worst is at night/naptimes when we are trying to get her to sleep. She screeches to the high heavens it is ridiculous. I honestly was concerned she was going to blow her eardrum out or something it is so loud.

Anyone else's LO started acting like a pterodactyl again?

  • Yup! Mostly when she's piissed and tired. It's pretty embarrassing when we're out. Goldfish crackers or a paci usually calm her down, but if she's especially mad she'll shake her head as hard as she can to avoid the paci. Luckily, these outbursts are few and far between!

  • Gator does the same. Screech for wanting something, not wanting something, etc.

I blame it on my slacking with sign language. I was very focused with my former nanny kids when it came to saying words and doing the sign. They knew 10 signs by 9 months and about 20 signs by age one. Their screech was RARE because they could sign what they wanted.

I have been super lazy with Gator so she only knows "milk". She screeches for everything else. I told SO yesterday I am so tired of hearing it, I think I am going to join the sign language class at Cotton Babies and I need to teach him some signs and he NEEDS to do them so we can get her caught up on some for less screeching. That sound is awful.
