Natural Birth

Intro!

FTM here! From day one I knew I wanted an epi because everyone on my side of the family had one and told me how wonderful it was, until I started doing research on interventions and the hospital I plan to deliver in (43% rate for c-section.... Say whaaaa??) then I heard how bonding with baby could be harder as well as breastfeeding... Seriously why don't doctors tell you all the facts? This pregnancy hasn't been the easiest ( had lots of bleeding during 1st tri plus I'm rh-) and I know going natural isn't going to be a walk in the park...but I've already made so many sacrifices of my comfort for baby ( gladly) that I thought why stop now? I got my Bradley Way book in the mail today as well as my RRL tea ( does this really help?) and I've signed up for classes with a Bradley method instructor. I'm planning on doing a water birth in the hospital with my OB. Anyways I've been lurking for awhile and just want to thank everyone on this board because I no longer feel alone, all my friends and family think I'm insane and just laugh at me when I say " med free childbirth".

I am a lurker, but Hi!!

I am planning on a natural med-free birth, provided I actually get pregnant any time soon. ;) I am just gonna say how nice it is to see someone else stepping out in the face of adversity. Every time that I mention anything to anyone close to me about my plans, I just get the "that's what you think now!" line...or "we'll see." My MIL actually told me I'd have to have a c-section, because she did with DH and SIL. Lol! I am proud of you for remaining true to what YOU want...and i wish you the best!

  • Hi and welcome.

It can be hard when you get the, "just wait" lines, but just keep hanging out here, the ladies here are really encouraging.

I really don't care how women get babies out of their bodies, but I love hearing about women educating themselves on ways they can approach birth.

FWIW I've had two amazing natural births and wouldn't choose to do it any other way.

  • I'm pretty new here, too, but not new to natural births or mommyhood. So welcome and good luck! With my first, I had everyone giving me the same "you say that now, wait until you're in there!" attitude (I was also very young) and now that I'm on number three, they don't have much to say! I think their doubt just made me more determined.

About the RRL tea, this is actually the first time I have done the tea. I did a couple other supplements in the third trimester my first two pregnancies, and had fairly easy labors. Right now, I'm just doing the RRL tea, and I feel like I'm having a healthy amount of BH, but I can't yet vouch for any affect I feel like it had on my labor/delivery. I have heard many positive things from credible sources, though, so I'm optimistic!

  • Welcome!

I plan to have a water birth in a hospital with a midwife and since my 32nd week have been downing 2 servings of RLT a day. I have no idea if it works, but I figured it can't hurt!

I've also been loading up on reading since I made the decision and two books I enjoyed was Ina Mae's Guide to Childbirth (a little crunchy, but I loved reading positive after positive natural birth story), and Natural Hospital Birth.

Well wishes! Good support on this board.
