I didn't believe it at first...

Today I was at the school where I used to teach, and the secretary told me that the new assistant coach had a baby yesterday. The kicker is she didn't know she was pregnant! I didn't believe her at first -- how on earth could one not know??? Turns out, she's 42, didn't think she could get pregnant, had been to umpteen doctors for lots of health issues over the past 6 months or so, and finally was diagnosed with bladder spasms. She had gained a little bit of weight, but she didn't have an apparent "bump." Sunday when her water broke, she thought she had just wet herself. It was only when she started getting these intense pains that her husband finally convinced her to go to the hospital. She was 9 cm dilated when she was admitted, and she gave birth to a 6lb + baby girl. Thankfully, mom and baby are both doing well. They are set to be discharged tomorrow. I'm still a bit in disbelief. Imagine just going along and suddenly you've got a baby -- no gear, no books, no classes, no mental preparation. Yikes! But on the other hand, I can only imagine what an unexpected and lovely blessing this is for them.

  • That's crazy! I bet she is relieved too that she doesn't have any health problems. What a perfect surprise!

  • Wow! That's crazy!! There's a show on tv called "I didn't know I was pregnant" that has stories like that. Still hard to believe this actually happens!

Glad mom & baby are doing well.

  • There was a girl I went to school with who didn't know she was pregnant till she went into labor. She was 17, about 5' and weighed maybe 100lbs. She never got a bump, she couldn't remember having morning sickness and she never had strange cravings or exhaustion. One day she just went to use the restroom and had bright red blood(guessing mucus plug) and was having intense pain so her mom took her to ER. She unbelievably gave birth to an almost 7lb boy. The one downside to it besides being a teen mom was that her and the father had broken up about the time she would have been 3 months along.
