Parenting after a Loss

Whooping Cough

I've had it/have it.  Actually I have had a cough, gone to my regular doc & things got so bad (6 weeks of coughing) I went to the ER yesterday.  I also have an infection now as well & I'm on  Z-pack.  I was just curious if anyone had any experience with this & if it will hurt my LO. Thanks!

Re: Whooping Cough

  • Is he vaccinated against it?  If he is, that will help, but since he's under 2, he's not fully immune.  I think they get their last dose at 2.  I'd call his pedi and ask them what you need to watch out for.  Whooping cough is much more dangerous in children than it is in adults.

  • He's vaccinated.  I am pregnant though. :( That's why I am worried.

  • I don't know how it affects pregnancy.  Have you talked to your OB about it?

  • It shouldn't hurt the pregnancy though you can strain your muscles in your abdomen coughing.

Even vaccinated your LO can get it though.  Gabe had it at 3 months old and it was awful, it took nearly 3 months for his cough to calm down he was pitiful I felt so bad for him.

The cough is painful (as you know) and it can take a long long time to go away.  Even after you aren't sick anymore the cough can persist for a while.  I hope you get better quickly.
