I just can't think of anything "big" she needs or wants.
Her birthday is Dec. 10 too - I'm going to get her a Tag Reader and then some dress up stuff, books and probably Merida.
She has a bicycle, tricycle, scooter, play tent, sit and spin, play kitchen
She's in daycare/preschool all day so I don't want to buy a bunch of junk for our house that won't get used much either.
Re: I don't really have a "big" present for DD - is that bad?
We're not getting a "big" gift for either of our girls this year. They have a bike, trike, wagon, play kitchen, and doll house. I might get them a new doll stroller since our youngest broke the one we had by sitting in it.
Here's a rundown of what they will get:
Puzzles (wooden and floor), big cardboard blocks, a few dress ups, hair bows and accessories, books, stacking toys, dolls, and a mailbox set.

No,not bad actually praise worthy. I'm actually getting the girls an art easel(chalk/magnets) this yr, but I cringe of space it will take up (even though they have a play room). I may have a touch of OCD. I think it will be used, however, I do enjoy the fact we can keep the toys neatly organized on shelves and limit the amount b/c they play at school. Again, maybe the OCD.
ETA: Everyday I stare at last yr's expensive, big present (Princess Castle) taking up space and it rarely gets played with.
Same here, mainly because my DS is almost five and is not really interested in any large toys. He wants actions figures, books etc.
My girls never seem to know the difference in big gifts and chatchkis. For Hannukkah, we usually get 1-2 big gifts then some fill-ins from Dollar Tree, Target, etc. And they always get more excited for the junk stickers, coloring books, art sets, etc, than the more expensive items.
Our big gift this year is Wii for the family. They have no idea what it is and will probably toss it aside when opened (until we set it up). I think they'd get more excited for some princess figurine.
We don't have a "big one" and we didn't have one last year either. I just can't think of anything big he'd really want/need.. Maybe next year I'll get him a power wheels if we get a bigger place.
I'm getting him a few different things that are not so big that I know he'll enjoy. Last year I got him a playdough set with lots of tools and colors and some of the very hard to find Cars 1 movie characters and he was super excited and loved it.
We?ll have plenty of years with big gifts coming up that he?ll actually beg for. So until then it is J
I think it's 100% fine. I never go nuts on the kids during Christmas. They are still too young to understand it and they just really don't need half the stuff they get anyway. I find that more attention is paid to each present when there are less of them!
I'm guessing you already know the answer to your question.
My kids got a Discovery Kids cardboard house for their birthday last year and they lived it and it does not last forever which is great. Michaels has a cute small castle one for 20 and use a 50 off coupon for 10, you could set it up for her and the next day point out it is cardboard and will eventually fall apart.
Last year we made the mistake of going "all out" and LO got a Cozy Coupe and a Tool Bench and some other little toys. This year, he started preschool and has become obsessed with books and cuddling and watching movies together when he is home. His dad went out on Black Friday and picked up some $3-$5 movies that he didn't have, and I ordered him some books through Scholastic (via his school) and that is what he is getting this year. $50 max spent. We have a rule in our house that Santa only fills stockings. We want to protect the magic of Santa for our LO and recognize that some years we might have more $ and some years (like this one) we will have less and rather than have Santa bring him a huge present one year and a small one the next, if Santa only ever fills his stocking he won't grow up asking for something we can't afford because he thinks Santa could afford it.
Nope. I don't either. Just lots of little ones.
I kind of feel like smaller gifts are more fun at this age anyway. I dont know about you but my girl is really into trinkets like miniature dolls she can dress up.
