I am hosting thanksgiving and decided to do turkey breat in the crock pot.
But I just bought a crock pot yesterday and have no experience using it. Although I "hear" it is very easy to use.
I was thinking of using a recipe I found online that simply says to rub onion soup mix on the turkey breast with bone and put in the slow cooker.
I was thinking of adding a chopped onion to the bottom of the crock and then the turkey breast in top- or vice versa (breast then onions) does it matter? Should I do this even though the recipe doesn't call for it?
Also I was going to take the breast out and put in the oven to brown a bit befor serving. Do you think this will dry it out? Or should I just broil a bit?
Any advice is appreciated. I realize I am posting on the bump not food network lol but I hoped some of you would be able to offer some help. Thanks in advance ladies!!!

Re: Any slow cooker users?
You might want to use a can of cream of celery soup at the bottom of the pot, too, whisked with a couple teaspoons of water until smooth. I use the onion soup mix recipe for pot roast, and find that using the soup helps keep it from drying out and makes for a better gravy. Yum.

Thanks all so far! I knew cooking forums have nothing on us.
This is the recipe. I am going to add the soup and water or broth as recommended and the onion on the bottom.... But just wanted to share the recipe: (I found it weird it just said two ingredients)

And speaking like a true southerner, I would throw some butter in there also, it would help brown the turkey and keep it moist!
BLT, thank you so much!! I just cleaned up the pot from making chicken and thought I can do without this! So the liners tip has perfect timing. Thanks so much!
I like that other recipe too! I think I am going to combine bits of each!
One more question, will it make the outside skin golden ( the crock pot) or should I just broil a few minutes once it's done cooking?
We use crock pots all the time to cook. your crock pot is just like your oven, only it will cook low and slow, and it will keep things more moist (so if you transition a regular recipe for the oven to the slowcooker you reduce total liquid).
I used to be a regular food blogger, so I'll hoist on my old hat for a second. If this was me, I'd put the turkey breast into the bottom. You can rub it with onion soup mix, but I prefer a combination of brown sugar, thyme, sage, parsley in butter rubbed over the top. Add a little salt and pepper. Then I'd put the classic thanksgiving turkey veg in with it: one onion quartered, two carrots chopped, two stalks of celery chopped, and half a lemon or orange. Then, again if its me, I'd pour at least half a cup of white wine over it. That is not only going to keep your turkey insanely moist and delicious, but it is also going to make a really fine turkey stock to use for your gravy and those slow roasted veg in there are going to be over the moon delicious when everything is done.
My household is also an avid crock pot user and we are always looking for new (and hopefully healthy) recipe's. I would love to learn some of your favorites! I'll put my absolute fav up tomorrow when I find it
Lots to do today with work and preparing for the in-law arrival for Thanksgiving!
