Recently my nephew was baptized and I was asked to be Godmother. Afterward I received a framed photograph of me with my nephew. My SIL called it a Godparent gift. When DD was baptized we didn't do a gift because I had never heard of this, honestly it never even occurred to me. Is it common to give the new Godparents a gift?
Re: Godparents Question
I have never known someone that hasn't recieved a gift for being a godparent.
Oh wow! Guess I really dropped the ball with DD's Godparents! Well now I know for next time!
It is common for the Godparents to get the Godchild a gift, but many people give the Godparents gifts, too. I don't think its expected, but more of a "thank you for taking on this responsibility for my child's entire life" kind of thing.
We got my LO1's Godparents a picture frame of them with LO that was framed with a matching poem about being a Godmother/Godfather. I think it's from Buy Buy Baby for 15 or 20 dollars.
I wouldn't worry about last time.
We gave Wyatt's Godmother a bracelet with his birthstone and had "Godmother" engraved when he was baptized. I believe we gave his Godfather a flask (klassy!).
It is the norm here.
We gave a gift, but honestly I never would have thought of it but my mom was the one who told me that's something you usually do. We gave a framed picture of DD but I think at this time of year a Christmas tree ornament might be a nice gift...
