I hate sharing scary stories like this one, but it's something I hadn't thought of and thought I should share.
Long story short, a child got tangled up in seatbelts and nearly died while her mother tried to free her.
I am going to start keeping some scissors in the car.
I'll warn you that I lost it reading this. My heart raced and I cried just imagining it. But that's because I didn't realize the child lives, so I'll spare you the adrenaline rush. Here's the post
Re: PSA: keep scissors in your car
So scary! I keep one of these in the car. It has a special "seat belt cutter"
At a safety class a fireman said that seat belts can be difficult to cut w/scissors.
Nobody messes with Anasazi!
We keep a similar one in our car too. I read this story the other day, I never really thought about this happening so it definitely opened my eyes!
Seriously. My husband said "um, let's just teach her not to wrap things around her neck." I dont' think that'll cut it, DH.
But I think it'd be good to have something to cut the seatbelts in case of an accident.
I'm also going to get a mini shovel. Now I'm car paranoid.
NOBODY!
Scary. I just read it to DH and he said we will get a pair of EMS scissors and keep them locked in the glove compartment.
I also agree with not leaving them attended but things happen and I can't imagine her guilt.
Thank you for sharing! I had never thought of this either. Just put these in my cart at amazon, and they'll be going in the gloveboxes in each of our cars!

Maybe it's the cold medicine, but your sig is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.
back seat pockets for easy access, obvs.
Just lock them in the glove compartment.
