Not drinking during holidays

So I have a couple holiday parties coming up where I would normally have a few drinks. I'm 7 weeks pregnant and I'm not ready to tell people that i'm pregnant but I'm already pretty bloated (did IVF and the meds made me pack on the bloat). I' afraid if I don't drink and don't say anything they'll all start asking. Now I'm a pretty good liar but my hubby on the other hand sucks at it lol He can't help but smile and giggle when someone asks, which completely gives everything away.

Any suggestions on what to say to avoid that subject?

  • I think you may have the wrong bored, but I would suggest maybe just keeping a nonalcoholic beverage that doesn't necessarily look like its non alcoholic on you. You can always say you're feeling a little fat and don't feel like wasting allotted calories on alcohol.

  • You can always make yourself 'mocktails' (I hate that term...). Or if you're at a bar or restaurant you can just discretely ask the bartender or server to make your drinks virgin.

Honestly, at parties I never pay any attentiont to how much someone else is drinking. You could always just order a glass of wine to carry around with you. No one will pay attention to whether or not you're actually drinking it. If you think they will, you could always pour a little out throughout the night or slip some to your husband.

I agree with these suggestions. You could order a regular coke and pretend it's a jack & coke.

I don't think people will notice as much as you think. Have fun at the parties and congrats on your pregnancy!

  • This was me last year.  Best way to not let on, take the glass of champagne when you are offered and then when everyone toasts, just sniff it.  Then subtly hand it off to hubby when no one is watching.  People only notice if you don't take the drink, they almost never notice that you're not actually drinking it.
