Just thinking about the post asking what people were going to do for their daycare providers for Christmas. I know our DCPs take care of our children all day while we can't be there, and their jobs are hard, but I'm just wondering do any of you get gifts around the holidays? From your employer or from clients? I am a social worker and I feel like it is the most under-respected profession on earth. My involvement with families at the hospital where I work isn't always positive in their eyes, and so I pretty much never get any thanks or appreciation. My hospital also doesn't do anything for us at the holidays - no gift or bonus, no party. I don't even get time off except for Christmas day. MH on the other hand gets a hefty bonus check every year and a really nice Christmas party from his work.
So, I was just wondering. What is your work like?
Re: S/O holiday gifts... does your work give you anything?
My cousin is a social worker in a hospital too so I have heard how hard of a job it is. That stinks that they don't even do anything for you all. Gosh, even a free lunch in the cafeteria would probably be something they could do as a minimum.
We never get anything here from the Profs who are in charge of the lab. Heck, they don't even bring cookies and coffee to their student's defenses and the student has to run around doing that while trying to get prepped. I never buy them anything either though so we are all even here.
I'm a SAHM but H gets a $20 gift certificate to the meat dept of a local grocery store. My grandma is an RN and this year received a paper certificate for a free turkey and ham. ( I know this only because she gave it to me to use so I can cook them and just give her some
)
At Christmas time H gets a $20 or $25 gift card to Walmart. It's nothing spectacular but it's better than nothing.

OCT 2011 Moms BlogI am a high school teacher so I don't get anything. Occasionally one of my students will bake something for me, which is always nice!
We usually do a work party but we have to pay for it ourselves - in recent years we've taken to just going out for drinks recently in lieu of an "official" holiday party.
I can't remember if DH's company does anything for them but he usually gets the people in his department a card and a scratch off. It's not much but we can't afford to shell out a lot of extra money during the holidays. He also gets his direct reports something extra.
Last year was his 10 year mark, and he got nothing. They didn't give anyone any gifts. And the company, financially, did way better than years previous.
We aren't holding our breath this year.
As a Federal employee I get nothing except Christmas day off.
DH works for IKEA and last year they got an e-reader and the year before a mountain bike, but no bonuses or anything.
No. We don't get anything from work other than that they bring bagels in for everyone on the last day before Christmas. That said, I am grateful that they give me both Christmas Eve day and Christmas off.

WTF! Prosecutors in my area make half of that. I know this for a fact.
I usually send in something for DH's department support staff - homemade hot chocolate packets in mugs, truffles, cookies, apple spice mulling packets in mugs, etc.
If they are the head of a department, they make $120k+....nowadays they are starting in the low $40's though....But, for those that have been here for 10+ years, they are doing JUST fine.....
