My non-talking kid is a genius. He started to make an animal noise. I am so proud of him. We were playing around one day, and I started using my arm to represent an elephant's trunk while making elephant noises. When he took a liking to his small plastic toy elephant, I started doing it more. He never copied me, and he always just looked at me funny. I am sure that I look ridiculous. I am a fat pregnant lady flopping my arm in front of my face making elephant noises that sound more like a dying dinosaur. Repeatedly saying "ellll --- aaaaa .... faannnnttt.Mason, this is an ellll .... aaaaa ... fannnnttt. [Insert dying dinosaur noise.]"
Well ... this weekend, we were playing with an animal iPad app. When the big, gray animal came on the screen, my son flopped around his little elephant trunk and made a perfect dying dinosaur noise. I almost cried real tears because I was so proud. Unfortunately ... it was the rhino. I quickly turned to the elephant photo which he looked at quietly, unimpressed.
He still ignores the elephant, but everytime he sees that rhino, he does the best little floppy rhino trunk impression that you ever did see! Mommy's little genius.
