Are you wearing protection?

Just wondering what people are packing in their panties these days.  I haven't had any issues with snissing or crazy discharge...yet.  But as I get closer and closer I'm worried about a water break/muscus plug/pee accident at work.  I teach 5th grade and I'm pretty sure that's a health class my kids don't need.  Also, there is no bathroom on our floor and I can't always get to a bathroom when I need it!

At what point did you start wearing protection and if so what?  Regular pads or something more serious?

  • I'm a teacher too, and I'm not wearing protection either. I guess I might need to be more proactive, but my strategy was to wait until something went wrong to start wearing pads!

  • At my childbirth class the instructor told us only ~ 10% of women will have their water break as their first sign of labor... so we'll have contractions or some other sign to know that we're in labor well before our water breaks.

One dad even said... 'with all the pregnant women I've known or seen in my lifetime, I've never seen one have their water break.' Our instructor again referenced her stat above...

I've just decided it is a part of the process, and with how pregnant I am looking these days there will be no confusion that it is my water breaking vs. anything else.  If it happens at school, I'd just excuse yourself and block the view (if possible) if you're worried about the kids... our instructor said some women have the 'gush' but a lot have the 'trickle' so you may know it has broken well before anyone could tell...

  • According to my sister, if your water breaks, there is no pad strong enough! However, for mucus plugs, and the ol' sneeze-n-pee, I stocked up on the trustee Poise pads, they are soft, absorbant and releventy comfortable. I like them because they are made specifically for woman with weak bladders and light incontinence (sp? if i spelled that wrong I should be damned, I work in a nursing home for pete's sake!) ,and are made to handle large loads of liquids. I dont know about out at work, but for home, I got dog training pads, you heard me, for my bed when I get closer to my due date, incase my water breaks in the night. No sense in ruining good sheets! Haha.

As for when to start wearing the pads, I wear them when I'm out with friends and I know Im going to laugh a lot, running errands, and at work. Basically, I wear them when I'm most active, because thats usually when disaster strikes. If I'm home, I trust that I can make it to the bathroom in-time. lol. Good luck!

  • I have to wear a pant liner everyday or my swamp crotch is out of control. But I also carry a light poise pad in my purse just in case.

Me too!  Just more comfortable that way.  Better safe than sorry is how I go about it!

  • I havent needed one lately. A few months ago the urinary incontinence was really bad and I was using liners daily. If this time is like last time, Im sure in a few weeks or so that will start up again plus the discharge so the liners will return.

I wont wear a full blown pad in anticipation of water breaking though. Mine did with my son and IMO you just have to roll with it. A slow leak (like I had) you can kinda catch before it is too bad and deal with stuffing your pants then. A gusher (rare)... well a pad wont help anyhow!

And really, most womens' water doesnt break first.

  • Yes because I've had bronchitis and was sick of wetting my pants from all of the coughing.  I don't think I would have needed to last pregnancy, though.  I didn't really have issues until giving birth to my son.

  • I've had a nasty amount of fluids since I got pregnant, so I always wear a thin pantyliner. I also carry a thicker regular pad in my purse just in case.

  • I'm still wearing my thongs so I wear the liners you can use with them just for discharge.. I'm not too worried about my water breaking. If it should be when I'm on maternity leave so I will most likely be at home anyway.

  • Like 12 weeks. Charlie is sitting on my bladder. I piddle like a puppy. I was wearing thicker Poise/Tena pads but they started irritating my skin so now I'm wearing the smaller liner for moderate leakage from Poise.
Embarrassing now tgat I share a bathroom with my husband's uncle and he has to see them :/

  • I'm also a teacher 4/5 class. I wear an ultra thin liner can't even feel it. I finish for mat leave on dec. 10 otherwise I'd probably start wearing something more substantial at around that point.

  • My mom said her water broke in a huge gush when she was pregnant with me so I worry about this, especially since I'm working right up until my due date.  Fortunately my office is in the back of the building so it should be pretty easy to sneak out and make a quick get away. I usually have a sweater with me so I suppose I could use that to help cover it up if I had to lol.

Right there with you on the swamp crotch, but I have no other forms of protection.
  • When I was in kindergarten, our student aide's water broke. Not traumatizing at all. We were all really excited to meet the baby!

Anyway, I wear a pantyliner because LO is sitting on my bladder and if I stand too long I have to pee...and if there's no bathroom in sight I'm in trouble.
