Pregnant after 35

The old gray mare.....

...just ain't the machine she used to be!

How are the rest of you doing w/the holiday prep/cleaning etc?

I took on what would've been a "normal" cleaning for holiday/guests yesterday (about 8 hours of cleaning, washing, ironing). And now I have what feels like carpal tunnel in my dominant hand and my back is making it hard to walk. I still have stuff to do before everyone gets here tomorrow and am lamenting that I can not used my regular anti-inflammatory (advil) to get by. :)

It's not fun accepting that I have limits. :)

Re: The old gray mare.....

  • I have carpal tunnel in my hands and my feet.  I bought everythign to make the Christmas cookies but I don't know if I can get it all done.  I cut up the Halloween pumpkins and made puree for the pies and bread but I was so tired after that DH had to do all of the cleaning.

I get really frustrated that I have to rest more than usual.

    I hear you, girl!

  • Luckily we aren't having guests and we aren't traveling for the holidays.  I can def feel it EVERYWHERE when I "overdue" it.  These days my cleaning/laundry chores can put me over the edge so I have to do a little at a time.  DH is going to have to take over soon:)

Isn't it crazy? Normal stuff you wouldn't think twice about takes you out at the knees. My brain need to catch up w/my body-  lol.

  • It's 11:21 am.... I'm still in bed. The thought of going turkey shopping right now makes me want to hurl..Arrrgghh! I'm with ya, sistah....;)

I hear ya- we just loaded up b/c we were out of everything last week and now we have to go for a big haul again tonite. And the list just keeps getting longer! I'm thinking a nap is def. in order today. :)

  • Right there with you! Weekends are usually my time to recuperate from the week but I hosted a lunch party last weekend and then we had friends over for a dinner party this weekend. I have a big cookie order to finish by Wednesday and find myself dragging my stool into the kitchen to sit and wash the dishes or work instead of standing because my back is killing me!  I'm going to have to re-think my Christmas baking...

The stool is a smart idea!

I already vetoed baking this year (I normally do a big bake and give as gifts. People fight over the packages!), warned everyone it's nothing personal- there's just only so much of me to go around right now!

  • I was in bad shape before this pregnancy, what with my fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis-- and no ability to take any meds for them, since they're all contraindicated when trying to get pregnant.

Now? Forget it. I am lucky if I can go up the stairs without feeling exhausted. MH does all the cleaning and sometimes has to do the cooking, too. I take naps every day that I'm not working. We drove 45 minutes home from my ILs' house yesterday evening and I thought I was going to pass out halfway home, because I didn't get my nap. How the heck I'm going to make it 4 hours down to CT on Wednesday, I have NO idea. Lots of bathroom breaks, too, so that will tack on at least another 30 minutes. At least we're staying in a hotel so I can take a nap undisturbed.

Even my dog is getting sick of me-- she just lies there on her chair sighing at me because I don't take her out for jaunts anymore...

Oh honey- this made me tired just reading it. Here's hoping your holiday is relaxing and you can get lots of naps!

  • Oh, Lord.  I have family coming for dinner Thursday and I just want to cry every time I look at the house.  I'm going to try to break it down into smaller tasks and knock out a few each night when I get home and then make DH help me for the big push on Wednesday.

I understand where you are coming from here- breaking it down will def. help. Good luck and I hope you have a nice Tgiving!

  • This is why nobody comes to my house for the next 6 months!

I really wish that I would have taken that stance.  I am entertaining after Thanksgiving.  I agreed to make 27 different kinds of Christmas cookies.  Not only is my brother coming to stay with me in February but he invited one of his friends to stay with me as well.  They used to come stay when they were in college and I thought that it would be fun.  Now it doesn't seem like the best idea since I will be 8+ months then.

I love to entertain but I think that I need to pull back for a bit.

  • Wow, everyone sounds like they are working really hard. I am embarrassed enough to be embarrassed if people see the mess, but not embarrassed enough to actually DO anything about it. I am definitely playing the preggo card this year and it is working! Stick out tongue It is just DH and me for Thanksgiving this year and I am SO GLAD. And we are going down to my parents' for Xmas, so I don't have to do a big clean then either.

  • Btw- it's 9pm ET Monday nite and I'm STILL CLEANING! What is wrong with me?

Did I mention my house was already pretty clean to begin with, I'm starting to think I'm just nuts (cleaning every baseboard, ceiling fan blade, ironing every table cloth and napkin- oy.)

I start cooking and making all new messes tomorrow. :)

  • LD, put down the dust rag and the iron and back away slowly... Stick out tongue clearly some AbFab is what is called for here. Sit down, put your feet up, and watch a few 'sodes!
