Are we standing yet??

My little one is 5 months old and she still folds when i try to make her put weight on her legs. She will stand for a second or two but then crumples! My friends daughter is two weeks younger and has been standing while holding fingers for 2 months! I know thats not normal! haha but then i saw a friend whos son is a week older than mine and he was standing while holding one hand! I know i shouldnt compare, that each child is different but she is no where close! I heard you werent supposed to put them into a jumperoo or jump jump until they could hold weight on their legs, so we have been waiting but i wonder if it would help give her a sense of her feet and legs? Just wondering where everyone else is at??

  • DS has been standing for awhile...he had great neck control early and while his balance isn't great prefers to stand, but like pp said isn't a great roller...he constantly tries to sit up, but since he isn't strong enough yet it just looks like he is doing crunches...haha.

  • Mine loves to stand. He's been holding his head up and standing while holding fingers for a looooong time. Maybe since he was 6 weeks or 2 months, something like that. I always thought that seemed really early! LOL. He also appears to be doing crunches while trying to sit up... Not quite there yet. And he LOVES his bouncer!  He sometimes falls asleep while bouncing, other times we have to remove him so he doesn't exhaust himself!

  • DS has been standing for months already, too. He's also a great roller and very comfortable with it. Like a PP, I think it may be because he isn't a big baby. There isn't a lot of weight to support or rolls to contend with. He's very lean. He's probably just around 14lbs and will be 5 months Monday. It seems like a lot of the babies on here were hitting or surpassing that by 3 months!

  • DD has been standing since she was about 3 months old and gets better and better with time (she's also on the smaller side - didn't even weigh 14lbs at her 4 month check up). That said, I have friends whose daughter has been 'standing' since she was pretty much a newborn. In fact, DD would absolutely freak out if I tried to stand her prior to 3 months - almost as though she wasn't ready before. So really LOs develop those abilities whenever and I wouldn't worry :) But you can definitely try a jumperoo and see what happens - DD loves hers!

  • She does put weight on her legs but she's definitely not capable of holding herself up while I only hold one hand. She's still pretty wobbly.

this! I could have written this post! LO turned 5 months this past Tuesday. Also starting to sit... scary and exciting!
  • DD would much prefer to stand versus rolling or sitting.  She has always stood while holding fingers for short periods and pulls herself up with her arms now if you hold her hands.  She does roll (usually back to front) but has little interest in sitting.  She tries to stiffen out :P But she does like to stand!  She's been using her jumparoo for about a month now.

  • I have never tried to stand my son with just holding fingers.  He does put weight on his legs.  They are still young so I would not worry about it.  DD could stand at her table if I put her there at 10 months but did not pull to a stand until  13 months and did not walk until 17 months.  Her fine motor skills and verbal skills were advanced.  Even now at 2.5 people are shocked by how well she speaks and hold converastions so every kid is different I would not worry.
