Cheap (I mean "thrifty") moms like me...

I've never done anything like this before but it was honestly SO easy I just had to share!  Last night I made my own laundry detergent from a recipe I found on pinterest.  All it takes is one bar of soap of your choice (I used dove sensitive skin, unscented, because we have eczema in our house), one cup borax and one cup washing soda.  The recipe says to use 2 gallons of water but I used 3 per several reviewer suggestions.  We tried it out last night and couldn't tell any difference between my stuff and the All F&C we usually use.  And check out the savings...

All F&C = $9.99 for 66 loads

Homemade using this recipe = approx $6 for 570 loads!  OMG!

 Here's the link if you're interested: https://www.onegoodthingbyjillee.com/2011/07/brand-name-laundry-detergents-last.html

And here's my first batch!

LOL, I know.  It's on my blog though, which is linked in my sig, so I figure if there are any creepos out there hunting for me they would've already tried that link and found it.  Thanks for looking out though!

Awesome! nbsp;::runs out to the recycle bin to get empty detergent container:: Where did you get the Borax?

I found it and the washing soda at Walmart with the stain removers. It's apparently not carried at all stores though. Some reviewers on the site said they found it at hardware stores.

    What is "washing soda?"

I am wondering the same thing?

Also, we are dealing with a little baby eczema and have been using Aveeno, but do you have a better suggestion?  Aveeno is not very creamy/oily, which is good, but just soaks in so quickly and we have to reapply often.  Thanks!
