Working Moms

moms w/ girls in daycare

sorry for all the daycare posts, but I'm new to this.  How do you do your daughter's hair in the morning and how does it look when ther come home?   If I send DD in a head band it always ends up on her cubby, when I do pig tails I use tiny rubber bands that are difficult to get out, but the clips are always out and her hair is a mess.  Do you expect the teachers to keep up their hair style?

Re: moms w/ girls in daycare

  • My dd doesn't go to daycare, but I would not expect them to keep up with her hair, seeing as I barely can.  The tiny rubber bands stay in, but even under my watch clips and headbands get pulled out right away.  I don't expect my aunt, who wwatches her, to keep her hair perfect.  She tries. But it gets sloppy sometimes, and she does redo it, but not all the time.

i tried to edit, but I don't think it worked.  Just wanted to add that my ds goes to daycare, and that's where I'm basing my daycare expectations off of.

  • I have in home care, and DD1 goes to preschool, I'd much rather they make sure their day is fun an exciting than trying to keep their hair straight.  "Baby" hair is usually very fine and slippery which is hard to keep up.  We also use the little rubber bands and they do stay in as well, clips and ribbons are chocking hazards, which is why they probably end up in her cubby after the first time they fall out.  Yes, they need to be watching your child, but there isn't anything they can do if they are changing another child's diaper, and your DD pulls our her clip and sticks it in her mouth.

  • my dx is only 10 montha but ahe has alot of hair. We usually send some clips and a headband but the daycare provider was putting her hair in those little rubber bands......I hate them because they are so hard to get out. We asked her not to use them so now she comes home with her clips in or nothing

  • Mine is one of 2 girls in a class of 8 kids. Her hair is the same usually just a bit messier. The teachers joke about how easy it is since their are only two of them.

  • I send L to school with her hair like it is in the siggy. She's the only infant with hair. Usually it looks decent, maybe a little messy sometimes. The dc provider actually started putting barrettes in her hair before I was! Almost all of the barrettes I have are from one of the ladies at the center. But I don't expect them to keep up with it.

  • DD doesn't really let me do her hair.  DC actually does it, she comes home with cute clips and ponytails.  She lets them do it for some reason.  I would not expect them to keep up any hairstyle that DD went in with.

  • LOL. No, I don't. I sometimes do her hair in the morning but it's a mess when she comes home.

  • sometimes i put her hair up in pigtails with tight rubber bands... but usually when i pick her up she's ripped them out.  if i add a bow, usually they just hand it to me when i get her.  i don't anticipate them fixing her hair during the day, i'm sure they have more important things to do.
  • In the morning I fix hair in clips, headbands, pony tails, braids,etc...With my oldest the style falls out by nap time. Sometimes her teachers will redo the hair and even put it up in an intricate style. Other times, it's sloppy. With my youngest DD, most of the time the hair pieces are in her cubby.  This past week, she remained still to allow the teachers to put her hair up.

I don't expect the teachers to keep up the hair style. If they did it for my DD they would have to do it for all the girls and that's pretty time consuming. I do love when they have time to style it tho.

    I don't. As katlizabeth said:

The only thing that really matters to me is that my girls' hair is off their face, and both DCP's do a good job at it. Doesn't meant they style her hair or anything, but they often come home with a "unicorn" tail on the top of their head because the bangs hair got out of their braids/pigtails/hairclips, and that's fine with me.

  • DD's hair is usually a hot mess, LOL.  When I do fix it in the morning, the pony tail holders or clips are usually out by the end of the day and I'm okay with that.  They don't really have time to fix kids' hair all day.
  • As a preschool teacher, I can tell you a kid's hairstyle is pretty much at the bottom of our list (not to be mean). Between the lessons we do and playing with the kids and bathroom breaks and outside time and lunch, it's really not a big concern for us to put back in pigtails.

  • DH took her this morning. He can't do a ponytail to save his life so he does nothing with it. When I picked her up they had fixed her hair. They even laughed and asked if he'd been in charge this morning.

  • LOL - no I would not expect teachers to keep up w/ my child's hair do for the day.

cut your LO's hair or just accept that she will come home in a different state than you left her.

  • My in-home provider will fix my daughter's hair...she has 6 other kids there I think. Here is why: My daughter will freak out if she doesn't have her bow in her hair....so the sitter always fixes it after nap time I think, I'm assuming it is easier for her to spend the 2 minutes fixing her hair than it is to listen to her whine about her bow.
  • I don't expect them to do anything.  And I especially don't except them to fight with a 2 year old about hair styling.  Her barrettes are ALWAYS in her cubby.  I don't know if she takes them out or they do.  But, I appreciate getting them back, because those things are expensive.

There are 2-3 teachers who enjoy doing hair and make it an activity with the kids.  So, sometimes she comes home with her hair more done than when I sent her.
