Traditions birthday/holiday/etc

What traditions did/do you plan to do for your LO? I plan to do birthday pancakes and want to decorate her door and fill her room with balloons DH thinks I am insane! I know the traditions are for me right now, but I really want to have them started from the beginning! Any other nonbirthday related traditions you do too??

    Birthday: Dinner=Birthday kid's pick, a special activity with mommy & daddy(when we were growing up, my mom would sign us out of school early & do something special with just the bday kid. It was AWESOME), & I'm thinking about doing the balloons in the bedroom.

    Christmas: Baking cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve, Santa always brings one unwrapped "big" gift & fills stockings, DS will get to pick a new ornament for the tree


    I'm sure there is stuff that I am forgetting. My mom always made holidays & birthdays a big deal growing up & I have some wonderful memories. I want the same for my kids.

    We aren't particularly crazy about 1st birthdays because the baby just doesn't get it yet, but we di start a decorating tradition on DS's 2nd birthday (and will do the same on DDs 2nd+ birthdays).  We decorated DS's highchair to be a pirate ship since he was obsessed with Pirates of Penzance at the time.  He still talks about it nearly 5 months later.

     

    For other traditions: We have an Advent Wreath that we light every night for the entire season of Advent. I fill the kids shoes for St. Nicholas Day (Dec 6th) the way other people fill stockings on Christmas. On Gaudete Sunday (the 3rd Sunday of Advent) we exchange ornaments.

    I'm not quite sure of birthday traditions since he's only 1, but I love Christmas traditions. As a kid, my sister and I would do the Advent calendar. I want to do the same when DS is older. I will start this year though, reading The Polar Express to him. My dad read that to us every Christmas until high school and I absolutely loved it!
