August 2011 Moms

Question from a 2012 Aug mommy!

Hi ladies! We are looking for a lightweight stroller for next summer, which do your recommend? We're looking now because our parents are looking to buy LO one fore Xmas. Do you have any preference with a tray or without a tray? TIA!

  • I love my McClaren stroller! It doesn't have a tray but it folds and unfolds easily and is nice to travel with. Also, the handles are up at a comfortable level, unlike a cheapie we also have.

The handles were a big concern for us as SO is 6'7" so that is something to think of, thanks!

I have the First Years Jet stroller. I love it. It's super light weight but has cup holders and a place for my wallet as well as a good size canopy. Only drawbacks are the storage below is hard to get to and it doesn't recline all the way back but that isn't too bad because DD isn't affect and sleeps in it just fine! Here is the link:

I second this!  Fold small for all it has

DH is 6'3" and is comfortable pushing it around.  I'm 5'5" and it's great for me too.

  • We just have a cheapie $10 umbrella stroller. I personally love it and use it all the time. It is very easy and lightweight, however, my husband is only 6'0 and he hates using it because it is far to short for him and there are no height adjustments to be made.

  • We have two. One that came with a travel system. Graco brand with a tray and HUGE basket underneath. And a cheap First Years one with no tray, no cupholder and moderately sized basket.

The big one lives in my car because it gets used when it's just me taking DD somewhere by myself. I need all that space in the basket and the tray when it's just me and DD. Throw some snacks or sippy on her tray and she doesn't want out of the stroller for awhile. It's also great in that the Target baskets fit perfectly on the handle and my shopping splurges are limited to what can fit in the little basket (as opposed to the large cart... I have crazy shopping urges at Target.)

The smaller one is good when DH and I are going somewhere together( and he can carry a bag or sippy), or for short trips where DD won't get as antsy to get out and walk around.

  • We only have one stroller - a City Mini.  It works well for us.  We have a tray attachment, but have never actually used it.  He does fine without it.  We're also both tall (both over 6') and this stroller works well for us.  I like that it's tough enough for all terrain walking as it's uncommon that we're actually solely on a smooth stretch of road.

I suggest using your stroller now.  Don't wait.  Some kids will not take to the stroller if they weren't put into it early.  Same goes for baby carriers.  We didn't use one until LO was 9m and he hated it.  Had I used it earlier, he probably would have been fine with it.  I've met parents who have had the opposite problem - their kids won't cooperate in a stroller because they've been carried everywhere.

  • I don't recommend the First Years Jet Stroller.

I have and love my Chicco Liteway!  It's great for travel!  It's gone on two roundtrip airplane rides and it's been so easy to take with us.  The handle for carrying is a great feature!

If you can swing the extra $$, I'd recommend the Uppababy Gluxe. DH liked that it could stand up on it's own.

  • Thank you so much ladies! We've narrowed it down to the first years jet and the combi cosmo!

    Yes  That's a feature I should've looked into.

    Hmm. Stick out tongue

I discovered it completely by accident ;)
