Bel Air area recommendations?

I am moving to MD in the next month or so - and I am 21 weeks. Thinking of Bel Air - any recommendations for OB, hospitals & preschools for 4 yo would be much appreciated! Good neighborhoods & school recs are welcome too. Thanks!

Re: Bel Air area recommendations?

  • If you'd like to deliver in Harford County, then Upper Chesapeake is the hospital to go to. I delivered my two at Franklin Square, which is about 15 minutes south and is in Baltimore County. St. Joe's and GBMC in Towson are farther away but many ladies from Harford County deliver there and I've heard nothing but great things.

Upper Chesapeake does not have a NICU, Franklin Square does. I've had good experiences at Franklin Square with both deliveries and I've also heard positive things about Upper Chesapeake.

I go to Box Hill Women's Care, which is right behind the Wegmans shopping center in Abingdon (although they call it "Bel Air South" on the shopping center website, I think just to sound hoity toity). The OBs (two females) there only deliver at F.S. and I only have positive things to say about them.

I don't know much about preschools specifically because my oldest is only 2 1/2 and goes to a daycare center with a curriculum, but I have a good friend who's children go to Christ Our King preschool in Bel Air and they are very pleased with it and have recommended it to several other parents in the area.

  • Like Meg, I delivered at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center  in Baltimore County. Both my pregnancies were high risk (pre-e & PTL) and I can't say enough great things about the hospital and NICU there. Both my girls had NICU stays (13 and 14 days) so we spent a great deal of time at the hospital.

As for OB's, I see Box Hill Women's care, which is in Abingdon, behind Wegmans. I had a great experience with both of the doctors and NP. I was monitored very closely and I just felt like they cared about me and my girls. Actually my nurse who was giving me my weekly shots, actually called me after I delivered DD to check on both of us.

I don't have any recommendation on preschools. My oldest in still at an in-home provider.

    Welcome to the area.

  • I go to Susquehanna OBGYN which is a combined practice of Docs & Midwives. I am seeing the docs, but have friends that have been happy with either choice. The office is in a building on the hospital property and they deliver at Upper Chesapeake which is in Bel Air. I've been able to get evening appointments so that I don't have to miss work, if that's a concern for you! Good luck!

  • Thank you for the recommendations everyone! Looks like we'll be living in a rental in Belcamp until our current home sells. Looks fairly close to Bel air?

Jenny - looks like you & I are due only 2 weeks apart!

    Stay well mamas!

  • Belcamp and Abingdon are both really close to Bel Air. Belcamp is one exit (three miles) up 95 from official Bel Air. We used to have a townhouse over there and it was nice at the time because we could get to Bel Air relatively quickly if we needed to go to Kohls or a big store, but we had our own gas stations & grocery store right there. Although Bel Air has all the generic stores you'd need 99% of the time, White Marsh is just a couple exits down and has a much nicer mall. :)
