What do you think?

DH's sister is getting married in Mexico in May, and we'll be there for a week. I want to buy a swimsuit now while all of the summer maternity sales are going on, and I keep debating whether to get a one piece or a bikini. Normally for wearing around where I live, I would wear a one piece if I were pregnant, but when I've been there before people were a lot less modest in Mexico. What do you think? I'll be about 28 weeks. Is it trashy to wear a bikini?

Re: What do you think?

  • I don't think so, but maybe some of the non-FTMs have suggestions? I was wondering the same thing. I figured I'd buy bathing suits off season so they'd be cheaper, but I didn't know which one to go for!

  • I plan on rocking a bikini with a bump this year! I would totally do that in Mexico! You never know if you'll ever get the chance to have a bump in summer time again.

  • I was due in September with DS. I rocked a bikini at the beginning of the summer then got a maternity tankini for the end.

Just something to think about is stretch marks.

  • One piece might be a bit much to get on and off during the frequent pee breaks from the pool... Nothing wrong with a bikini bump!  I am going to be rocking a tankini this summer.

  • My last dd was an end of August baby and I wore a bikini daily. If your confident rocking it then wear it. If u think you might be uncomfy bc you care what others think then stick with the tank or one piece. I was at the beach 39 weeks pregnant and could care less if strangers didn't like what they saw. But let me state the obvious, if you wouldn't wear a bikini before you were preg, then I wouldn't start now. Kwim
  • I have a tankini that I bought when pregnant with DS and I replaced the bottoms with a skirted bathing suit bottom.  I didn't like the way the one piece I tried on felt on my belly--too much tension/pressure.  The tankini was the prefect solution for me.

  • I prefer a one piece, but that is due to my crazy stretch marks. Try different styles and see how comfortable you feel. You can always put a large T shirt over a bikini if you feel uncomfortable when you get there. Happy shopping!

  • I think do what ever you are comfortable with I think it's pretty common for women to wear a bikini these days but what do I know lol we are going to a wedding in February which is in St Thomas if my bump looks cute I am totally wearing a bikini I will be around 1920 weeks. MIL already asked if I would wear something like that I said absolutely I am sure she will be uncomfortable but not her place to tell me

Do the bikini and a cute cover - if at anypoint you feel uncomfortable you could just slip that on

  • I wore my regular bikini at 26 weeks when I was pregnant with DS. I didn't have a huge bump then and I refused to spend $ on a suit that I would only wear that one time. Since I'm due later this time I will likely buy a tankini, but that's just for my comfort in chasing around a toddler too. If you can rock a bikini, I say go for it.

  • I think I'm going to go the bikini route (unless I get crazy stretch marks, then I'll reconsider). But I don't think i'm going to get a totally skimpy string bikini...

  • Thanks for all the input ladies! I think I'm going to go with the bikini. I didn't get stretch marks with my first....so I'm keeping my fingers crossed I don't with this one either!

This also.  You never know if you'll get stretch marks or not---which is a reason I'd look into a tankini just in case.
