Endo coming back?

Question for anyone that has Endometriosis...

I had a laporotomy  back in May to remove a 5cm cyst from my left ovary. They also found a lot of endo on the back side of my bladder, and my right ovary and colon were being help together with endometrial tissue. I have officially been diagnosed as stage 4 Endo. I have been on BCP since before the surgery to try to keep it under control while we figure out what steps we were going to take with IF treatment.

So it's been 6 months now since surgery and we are preparing to move forward with IVF next month... and I think I'm starting to feel it coming back. I know they said that with stage 4, I can expect to have surgery every 12-18 months to keep it under control due to rapid regrowth- unless I'm on BCP to minimize growth. So that's where I'm confused/concerned. Has anyone else experienced symptoms so quickly after surgery? While still on BCP?

I had an ultrasound a little over a week ago in preparation for IVF, and nothing showed up. I'm just nervous that it is coming back and is going to have a negative impact on our upcoming IVF cycle.

Re: Endo coming back?

  • I had a lap in March to remove two cysts.  One was the size of my uterus.  They then discovered stage 4 Endo(why did it have to be the worst there is!?).  I had to wait to change insurances so my IVF would be covered until July.  My IVF cycle got started in early Sept.  Already in August, I had multiple cysts again and prob Endo..that was 5 months after the surgery.  I had not been on BC pills after the surgery though because they said if I ever have a chance naturally, it would be the 3 months after getting cleaned out.  So, I am not sure about being on BC.  It is supposed to minimize the growth, but I don't think it totally keeps it 100% clear.
7/18/12-1st RE appointment CD2 blood work taken. Told to move straight to IVF. Starting BC pills and FSH injections plus Lupron. Hopefully doing ET in September Off BCP March 2011 Started TTC July 2011 7 months TTC with no luck an then.... Diagnosed 2/24/12 with 2 Ovarian Cysts. 3/22/12-Lap to remove cysts, look for endo, and see if tubes are clear. 3/22/12-Diagnosed with Severe Endo(tubes are clear). 4/4/12-Post op OBGYN appointment. Told chances of conceiving naturally are very low, but told conceiving in the next few months is our best chance due to being cleaned out during Lap. Referred to a RE. RE said IVF is our only chance to get pregnant. Told only a 20% chance even with two put in. 9/5-Lupron 9/20 Stims(Menopur & Follistim) 9/30 Trigger time 10/2 ER 10/3 fert report-out of 7 eggs retrieved only 2 fertilized. Hello "Thing 1 and Thing 2!" Kinda sad there is none to freeze. Because only 2 we will have 2DT to get them back into a natural envionment 10/4 ET. Found out that only 1 divided. We love you "Thing 2." Thing 1 is now snuggled inside me and we are praying it will be our take home baby! **Did not even make it to my beta, the day before on 10/16/12 I got my F'in period** Such a stab in the heart. Nov 2012-Moving onto domestic newborn adoption! Can't wait for my take home baby. We will try IVF again after 1-2 years of a clear head. Need a break from infertility treatments/issues for my mental sanity! image

  • They say a third of the time is refills. I had a lap in March and immediately felt its return to my L ovary. I asked my OB for an U/S and sure enough, there it was, same size as before. I've had to wait to go back in but am not waiting the full year as this recommendation is arbitrary. Trust your body, you know what endo feels like.
35yo, DH 40, 5 yrs TTTC. Normal HSG and SA. Challenge is low ovarian reserve (AMH=.16) due to moderate endo. Two laps, 2 IUIs with injectables, no baby. Trying first IVF cycle 4/13. Actively seeking egg donor.
