We are flying out tomorrow to visit my parents in Oklahoma. And I am trying to decide if I should get a gate check for our double stoller. As well, I am trying to decide if I should take my son's FAA approved car seat on the plane or if I should get a gate check bag for the car seat. What have you done when you have flown with your toddler?

The Chaos of Six!
I'd definitely put anything you check in a bag - otherwise it's likely to get quite dirty
Carseat wise - if you think your LO will sleep, bring it on - otherwise I'd gate check it, they are bulky and actually make the flight more difficult IMO. A toddler is JUST the right distance to kick the seat in front of them when in a carseat - it's a nightmare! Plus without a carseat you have a lot more space to keep them entertained during the flight.
You don't have to have a carseat for a LO on a plane, but any child over 2 HAS to be buckled in for take off, landing and turbulance
My dd prefers to have her CARES harness, or just the normal plane seatbelt if it's a long flight, but for short hauls when I know she'll sleep, I bring the carseat on with me
I'd NEVER check a carseat at checkin though - it would get so beat up - and I've heard checking it there (and not at the gate) can be the equivalent to the carseat going through a car crash - NOT good for the seat safety wise!!
