BTDT moms -- I have a question!

Ok, so I'm not experiencing this right now, but just very curious as to when I might expect it.........  Incontinence.  I've heard the horror stories.  At what stage of pregnancy does this typically start?  I'm trying to brace myself for when the less pleasant side of pregnancy like incontinence will start and when I should begin to prepare for it.  Eeeep!  Thanks, ladies!

Re: BTDT moms -- I have a question!

  • I wouldn't really call it incontinence. It's just a bit weaker of a bladder. Lol. It starts to happen when the baby is really pressing on the bladder so late 2 tri at the earliest. The problem really comes after. Your whole lady bits business is never the same. The whole area is weakened by pregnancy and delivery and recovery.

So do your kegels and don't wait long between trips.

  • 3rd trimester for me last time. I didn't have any issues after delivery. Now I just pee as often as possible. Don't wait! Do your kegels and you should be ok!

  • My kids had a tendency to stay really high until sometime during labor so I never had to deal with incontinence during pregnancy.  After delivering my daughter though I ended up in PT and did pelvic floor rehab.  Do your kegels starting now.

I never got it - I started doing my keggles really early (like now) and not sure if that helped or not, but I didn't get it. Also, when I'm going to sneeze or cough I just squeeze down there and was ok... HTH

I think this is the same with everything in pregnancy. You're not going to get all the symptoms.

  • I never experienced any incontinence.  I came close a few times but I quickly learned to limit my water when I wasn't within a few minutes of a restroom.  I always wore liners though just in case!

It really something to stress over either.   You wear a light panty liner and you learn real quick to cross your legs when you laugh, cough, or sneeze lol.

Yep the squeeze when you know it's coming thing. You know I wouldn't give up my daughter for anything in the world but I do miss the being able to hold my pee in all circumstances.

  • Never had an issue with DS. Except twice when I sneezed and peed myself while walking. Luckily I was home both times and it wasn't a full out pee but enough for me to have to change my pants.

Maybe that was me too - my son was really high so I didn't have the incontinence or always needing to pee issue - though it was hard for me to breathe. I had to take breaks just when talking. Made conference calls fun

  • My only issue was with sneezing and it was just a little bit, definitely not full on wetting my pants

This was me too. I carried really high and didn't have any issue with him kicking or pressing on my bladder. But... He was in my lungs and made breathing difficult.

  • I really never experienced this with DS either before or after delivery. It will be interesting to see what happens this time.

I second the call for doing your kegels :)

    PgAL/PAL welcome, always!
  • Never was an issue for me, I guess I was lucky.  Try to make Kegels a regular part of your pre and post natal activities.

  • For me it was closer to the end. It wasn't crazy bad, just a drip here & there. Panty liners saved the day.

  • I never experienced it, during pregnancy or after my son was born. He was a big baby too...almost ten pounds, so you would think things would be really stretched out down there.  I think everyone is different.  Maybe you will get lucky!

    PS I never did kegels
