I LOVE the name Gavin. We just found out we are having a girl, but Gavin was the name we had picked for a boy. Can you maybe use one of his picks for a middle name?
I don't think either of your likes are "out there" or "bland." You do seem to have some middle ground (Callum and Collin have similar sounds while Isaac, Luke and Levi are all Biblical). I would honestly think both your lists came from the same person.
I would maybe do a list of 20 names you each like and see if you can narrow down. Maybe give each person a certain number of vetoes. See what you're left with that's similar and go from there.

This is a good idea!
One thing I did with my H is make a huge giant list of all the names I love and like. Gave it to him. He crossed off anything he hated, circled the names he liked, and did nothing to the ones that he felt neutral on. I kept the list of the neutral/like ones. (I keep neutral names because sometimes, over time, a name will grow on him.)
Anyway, then we have this list of names we both agree on.
Something else we did once (because I'm nerdy and think its fun! H just humors me) is I made each of us make a top ten list of names off our master list. Then I could see where we overlapped. Like, oh look, we both have Kevin in our top three! Winner!
Okay, I've kind of gone on a tangent here. I am done now.
I just want to give you a world as beautiful as you are to me.
I thought my H and I were very different with naming styles too. I like very different names and he likes very traditional names, but out of the blue he will pick one that is a little more my style. He named our daughter, Shayla Elyzabeth. I love how Shayla is different but not too crazy and Elyzabeth is traditional (even though I am crazy and changed the spelling a bit). We are going for the same thing this time around, with a more unique first name and a more traditional mn.
Like PP said, your names are neither bland or too out there and both lists are somewhat similar. Even SO that seems somewhat removed from baby names are usually on the same page if you write them down, ask why they like the name, cross off ones that are definite "no". Surprisingly when discussing names this time for baby #3 my DH said what about Ophelia... I couldn't believe it, was on my guilty pleasure list for baby #2 that ended up being a boy. We never talked about it, so it was a shock that it even came out of his mouth (a man who likes plain names like Jamie, Kerry, Ellen). As we kept talking names, we decided we like Sophia, despite its popularity and then came up some boy choices too. Don't get discouraged, keep talking and working at it. GL
DH and I DO NOT agree on names. Names I LOVE are Callum, Gavin, Kai, Isaac.
Names he loves Luke, Collin, Levi
He thinks my naming style is too "out there" I think his is bland. Anyone have any compromising suggestions?
Oy, I agree with you 100%....do not like his name choices at all ("too bland" like you said). I haven't read any of the previous responses, but what I did to get my choice with the naming was to simply remind my boyfriend that the child is going to have his last name so I should get to pick the rest! Luckily, he liked the name I picked but we argued--to the point I almost CRIED--over a middle name he suggested that I have always found to be really hideous, so I can feel your frustration. I am with you on the names & hope you are able to come up with some kind of compromise.

Me and husband were in the same spot as you a few days ago....I wrote down my top 7 names he crossed out 3 of them. then he took 2 days to think about the 4 that were left and BAM! we had a name....my hubby isn't good at discussing etc. and he is def. not going to look at a book so the list thing really worked.
Good luck! I think everything you put down was nice-and you both have great names!
I agree with your husband a teeny bit - I've never heard Kai or Callum before, and I'm not a huge fan... But I don't like too-unusual names. Gavin and Isaac are great though!
Someone else may have said this, but what about combining a too "out there" name with something a little more "bland" to balance out to a good name? I think Gavin Luke or Collin Isaac both sound great!
Just looking at your list is seems like Gavin could be a compromise- it's the least 'out there' of your names. Does DH like that? Or maybe Evan- to me those two names always seem similar.
